I delivered the newest Christmas stocking to my granddaughter yesterday. She had a hook all ready for it.
Here is a closer look at her stocking. I made it in the late 1980s when I was still doing a lot of counted cross stitch. It is the only all cross stitch stocking that I did. The next 2 grandchildren got cross stitch cuffs on their stockings.
I did bindings on mug rugs last night while I watched TV.
It took me a little over 3 1/2 hours to do 10 bindings by machine. That comes out to about 22 minutes each.
If I had finished them by hand they would have taken about 45 minutes each minimum.
I quilted 5 more mug rugs a couple nights ago so they will get trimming and binding soon.
It was -3 degrees when I went to bed late last night. Thursday is supposed to be the coldest day and then snow again.
I need to get out and get groceries bought, but not today. Your mug rugs are really neat looking. I should make some more again. Mine were big enough for just a coffee mug. Stay warm. Chris
ReplyDeleteYou have been busy the last couple of days! Going to start getting busy today although not in the sewing room. We have a new puppy coming... this weekend, (a week earlier than expected).... and some shopping to do. Going to get colder here too! In the 20s this morning.... boo!
ReplyDeleteFor me, there is nothing more beautiful than fabric art and needlework. I enjoy stitching by hand much more than stitching by machine, but I love it all.
ReplyDeleteStay warm. We are really in for it.
xx, Carol
Your mugrugs are terrific. Will each one of them count as a finished quilt in the December tally? teehee!
ReplyDeletesuch a pretty mantel with the stockings
ReplyDeleteThe mug rugs are so darn gorgeous! I am a machine binding person and I make no apologies. Every thing else is machine stitched, so why not the binding?
ReplyDeleteMy goodness you got a lot done again! That is a lot of binding! We have some sunshine today! Yes, it is only 12 degrees, but the sun is shining! I haven't seen the sun in about a week. It looked like it was a full moon this morning. It was so beautiful at 6;30 this morning when I was out walking.
ReplyDeleteThe mug rugs look great.
ReplyDeleteMachine binding is my go to for everything. I think it looks just fine along with all the other stitching on a quilt.
For years I did handmade ornaments (some of the cross stitch) for my nieces and nephews. But as the family grew I realized that I had to quit with that tradition or spend the entire years straining my eyes.
I suppose I need to start some tradition with the "greats" now.
Beautiful work! I would love to know how you do your bindings, if you have a chance , and time, to answer. I'm binding some Christmas placemats and it's turned into a mess--LOL. I don't have any trouble binding regular quilts. melindashathotmaildotcom
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy binding by hand. However, your statistics on time may have nudged me over to going the machine route for the quilt I still need to bind before Christmas. It would be do-able by hand, but maybe I could enjoy doing a few other things, too in that time. Thanks for sharing that.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful collection of stockings! A lifetime ago I did needlepoint but have never done counted cross stitch. I think at this point in my life I'll stick with quilting.
ReplyDeleteI used to do XS. Don't think my eyes could do it anymore. Love the mug rugs. Do you have a tutorial on machine binding? Keep warm.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cross stitched stocking, that must have taken quite a bit of time to create, but well worth it!
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice when people really appreciate the things we make!
