I had to try the zig zag layout first. There are four of each combination of the triangle squares so this is one of each, one fourth of the quilt. The triangles make 6" finished squares. For inquiring minds that are no reply, my triangles are cut on my Accuquilt Studio die cutter.
Then I just turned the pieces to different positions for this layout. I will press the rest of the squares today.
I was nearing the end of the #23 book in the Lucas Davenport series by John Sanford so I did a bit of reading yesterday too and finished the book. Now, on to the library for #24.
Of the 2 layouts I prefer the 2nd, but I know this is only a teaser. I just googled Lucas Davenport; looks like the series finishes at #26. Seems like a good story-line for #24. I like a good detective series but only listen to audio books. I'll have to check my local library on-line to see what's on offer. The weather has been cooler here the past 2 days - hope it's not so hot for you now :)
ReplyDeleteI really like the second layout. It will be fun to see where you go with this project.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the second layout, too. But I know how much you love zig zags, lol!
ReplyDeleteFrebblebit
Both are terrific. I love the value shifting that happens on the second one. It shimmers.
ReplyDeleteI love that 2nd layout and continue to be amazed at times at how a turn of pieces can change a whole look of a quilt top. I love the Lucas Davenport series too and read them as soon as they come out.
ReplyDeleteLove the second layout, gives a prismatic appearance! And amazing how those vintage plaids play so nicely with the newer prints! Great combo Wanda!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Chris. The second has a lovely prismatic effect that really pops. you could do one or two sections of that surrounded with the zigzag.
ReplyDeleteAnother vote for layout #2. So much more depth, variety, shifting tones.....
ReplyDeleteGood morning Wanda.....guess I'll jump on the bandwagon and choose #2 as well. It really gives a lot of dimension to the quilt and will await your final decision once you have exhausted all possibilities. It will be fun to watch as you do.
ReplyDeleteI've finished listening to all of the books by John Sanford and have enjoyed them all.
Great grandchild #9 is in the hospital, along with her mom, waiting to make her entrance into the world today.
I wish the heat and humidity would blow away so I can spend some time outside. Yesterday I went in the koi pond to clean out out the dead vegetation and algae, but the bugs were horrible and the mosquitoes did a number on me.
Layout #2
ReplyDeleteDo the Davenport series need to be read in order?
Love both layouts, but I also think I like the second one more ..... Cannot wait to see what you end up doing.... I know you will play around with placement a bit more....
ReplyDeleteWe are getting a little break in the weather, here in Virginia.... A couple of days with cooler temps and less humidity! If tomorrow's forecast is correct, with a high in the low 80's, we may be able to open the windows! It will be great to get some fresh air in the house!!

As much as I love my zig zags, I do like #2.
ReplyDeleteLove the combination of prints with plaids. I prefer the second layout, too, but I'm sure you'll come up with something else even more interesting.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love Lucas Davenport? John Sandford does a great job of continuing to develop his characters. Virgil Flowers is actually my favorite and I hope he starts a Lettie series.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm odd man out as I think I prefer #1. I love the second one too, but I have a pattern similar to #1 and I've had it on my mind. I so love reading and listening to audio books. I listen to James Lee Burke on audio with the wonderful voice of Will Patton and am reading Harlan Coben's latest book now. Isn't the library just wonderful for getting our books and audios. I'm also into the DVDs they have, TV is just not the same anymore.
ReplyDeleteLove the Sanford books on audio book. I have sewn and driven a lot of miles to his Books!!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed just gazing at both choices, thanks for the eye candy! I've heard the second choice called Depression blocks from the 1930's?
ReplyDeleteI love the second, Diamond design, it is beautiful. Love the way the diamonds are framed with the darker fabrics. I would not go any further this one is a beauty !
ReplyDeleteJJM
Love the second layout!
ReplyDeleteNumber 2 gets my vote too!
ReplyDeleteFun what a difference it makes to move the blocks around. Looking forward to seeing what you decide.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of John Sanford, but I googled him and read about the series. I added it to my list and might try him out. It's always wonderful to meet a new author you like - especially one who has such a long list of books written already! So it's definitely worth a try!
