I am close to done cutting for 80 7" blocks. I just need 4 more pieces of the shape on the left. I decided to start pairing pieces and cut the last 4 when I know what I need.
I got 40 sewn last night and paired the rest. Now I know I need 4 lighter pieces to finish the cutting. Here is a post where I show how I sew curved seams. I don't use any pins now though.
I had to take the flannel off the design wall that I moved for better lighting and cut the board down 1". Then I put the flannel back on and set it up ready for the next project.
It was beautiful yesterday so I mowed the grass and planted one more tomato plant. I have a few more things to plant today before the rain starts again tomorrow.
Happy Memorial Day!
Oh, I am loving those plaids!
ReplyDeleteI started a drunkard's path quilt, once, but abandoned it. I found out (promptly!) that you can't just cut a concave piece and a convex piece from the same square of fabric, because of the seam allowances. So it was as if you had to use a whole quilt's worth of fabric for the "bite" pieces, and a whole quilt's worth of fabric for the "bitten" pieces. Am I wrong, here?

I have the same templates as you because of a circle quilt you did. I made a batik one for my daughter over 2 years ago.
ReplyDeleteCutting that block with acrylic templates is not easy- especially the concave one.
I am sewing a flowering snowball block now with made fabric and don't use any pins either except for adding the centers of the connecting piece. After sewing my daughter's queen size drunkards path, I mastered the curves. Your advice works and is great.
I want to try Drunkards Path one day and have a template so I can make a cardboard copy. If it works out ok then I will buy a plastic one, but I need to just try one first. I've watched lots of videos so know the basics and also looked at your photo tutorial. I'll get around to it soon, hopefully :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Memorial Day to you = it's a bank holiday here in UK and we have sunshine!!
Happy Memorial Day!
ReplyDeleteThose are going to make a beautiful finish. Enjoy your rain.
ReplyDeleteHappy Memorial Day.
All those curves. I love the Drunkard's Path. I have made a couple in my time. I look forward to seeing more of yours.
