Orange Portrait.......

I was able to finish the binding on this quilt yesterday.  It is a small quilt, 43.5" x 63.5".  It is 2.5" taller than me so for us short people, it would be a good couch quilt.

I'm glad I used this fabric on the back because I really like it with the front.

I started my baking for Christmas 3 days ago, 3 batches of Spritz cookies so far.  I tried a new recipe with cream cheese in it but for flavor I still like my old Betty Crocker recipe from the 1950s.

  1. I have a Betty Crocker edition from the very early 70's and love it - my daughter once picked me up a newer edition thinking it would be the same just in better condition but the recipes (some) have been changed for convenience products. I like the older book

  4. I have the old Betty Crocker cookbook. The same edition as my mother used, although not her actual book, which quite literally fell apart from use. Besides spritz cookies, the Russian Teacakes are another favorite from it. Woe betide me if I were not to make these at Christmas. The butter consumption goes through the roof at the holidays!

  5. I have my mother's Betty Crocker cookbook, grease-pocked and falling apart. My older son learned to bake bread from it. Got a new Fannie Farmer not realizing it wasn't the same as my old paperback that was in shreds. Can't beat the old faithfuls for basics!

  10. Love the orange colour. You didn't say which side was taller then you, so you're either a very short 41" or a bit taller at 61" :) I imagined you being a bit taller than that.

  12. I love this quilt. It's strange that I never cared for orange at all, but this past year I have fallen in love with it. Still not my favorite color, guess I don't have one anymore. I still use my old Betty Crocker cookbook too, the cover is long gone.

  13. I guess that quilt would cheer you up over there but here it looks like our weather for the next few days.

  14. I have the 1950 Edition of the Betty Crocker cookbook, and I learned a lot from it and used many of the recipes. I loved the pictures and the substitutions and how to do some things. Unfortunately I can eat all the sweet stuff any more. Lactose and Fructose intolerance, but I've many, many cookies from those recipes in past years.

  15. Oh, that orange! It's just like a giant sunburst. I like it!

My 1970 Betty Crocker was my go-to cookbook until I just wore it out. I found a loose leaf one on ebay and put each page in a plastic sheet protector and make my own notebook/cookbook. Got to have my Betty!

  17. I LOVE the orange. That is just fabulous and the backing is perfect for it.

Spritz cookies are some of my favorites. I have one of the old BC cookbooks too - a real treasure. It used to be my aunts so it is extra special.
