Ditch quilting........

I did errands on the way home from church yesterday and didn't get lunch until 2 p.m.  Then I went out and cut down the Canna plants and dug up the bulbs.  It gets too cold here to leave them in the ground.  Last night I ditch quilted the colorwash wallhanging.  I used Invisifil thread, something like clear polyester only in colors.  I will choose a binding today and baste the next colorwash.

Speaking of colorwash, someone (a no reply commenter) asked if I couldn't do the class as an online class.  The answer is no.  It isn't a place this color here and that color there type project.  It is an original design by each person and they need consultation all through the project.  Photos don't show the values like seeing them with the naked eye so emails back and forth with photos really doesn't give a true evaluation.  I hope I will be able to continue teaching but I'm 3/4 of a century old and so far my eyesight is holding up.  I wish more of you lived closer so you could come to a 2 day workshop with me here in Sandwich IL. (Still trying for the first week in November).

  1. I never heard of Invisifil. Who makes it and where do you get it? I find Bottom Line can disappear, but never quilt in the ditch.

  2. Hi Wanda - your ditch quilting is so perfect! When I press seams to the side, I have trouble with truly straight ditch quilting...seems I have to meander from one side to the order, to be on the side opposite the seam allowance. Or do you press your seams open? What is the secret? Also, do you get your Invisifil thread locally, or do you order it? Lovely!

  3. If any of your readers are not taking your colorwash class because they don't live close to Sandwich, Illinois, they are missing out on an opportunity of a lifetime. Wanda is an amazing teacher, she shares a wealth of information, plus she makes delicious cookies! You will learn so much from her!

  5. Wanda if I only lived closer! I would love to do a class on colorwash but alas I am way out West. I do love your quilts and am very inspired by your work...........so much that I shamelessly copied one of them last year........the blue and green with just the simple narrow strip insterted into each block........forget what you called it. I still need to quilt mine.

  9. I love this color wash, the fabrics are beautiful florals. I think I even prefer them over the batik color wash which are perfect. I do hope to take a class with you soon.

  10. Just wanted to comment that I've been following you for a while and I'm amazed at how much you get done...now you say you are 75! I am so amazed...I'm "only" 64 and can't get half as much done! Good for you! Thanks for all the inspiration!
