Borders and binding.......

I pressed the quilt top and started auditioning borders.  I wasn't sure if I wanted a dark one or medium color so I chose 2 and tried them.  Neither of them did anything for me.

Next I chose a Brandon Mably large dot.  I tried the one on the left first and liked it.  I went back to the stash to see what other colors I had in it.  I guess you would call the one on the right ochre and it has charcoal gray dots.  I like that one too.  No decision yet.  I may try a few more fabrics today.

I went out to mow the front yard next.  It was hot but the humidity level wasn't bad.

When I came back in it was time to get busy on the binding on the two wallhangings.  I got one all done and have started the hand sewing on the second one.  I am determined to have them in my finishes for this month.

  1. I like the gray dot better. My opinion. The heat is suppose to be worse today so be careful if outside. Chris

  2. The gray one on the left makes the quilt sing for me.

  3. I agree that the first two don't do anything for the quilt. I'm not sure why. You have such a good eye! I like both of the second ones but may be leaning towards the greyed one on the right as well.

  4. I guess I march to a different drummer.. I like the Mably on the left better. It doesn't pull my eye away from the center so severely.

  5. I like the gray one on the right better because the brighter one on the left dazzles me so I think my computer monitor may not be true!

  6. I like the brighter red on the left better, but both would work. Well you have 2/3 of today to get the 2 finishes in..... for the month and I know it will be done!

  7. I agree with Gene. Now let's see what you end up with. You always come up with the perfect border.

  8. From the photo, I like the gray dot (on the right) better. That's not to say it would be true in real life . . .

  9. What wonderful finishes you have. My husband is leaving for 2 weeks today so I am hoping to get a pillow finished before I go to bed after he takes off on his Harley:)Both borders would work-thought I liked the right better at first glance but like the left as well. I'm no help!

  10. Nothing like a deadline to finish something off, is there? Your quilt is beautiful - it got better and better as more was added to it.

  11. I didn't know this was an opinion poll. (*._,*) I know you will select the best border for this piece you always do. Binding on the spin is perfect.

  12. The border on the left seems to make the quilt float above it while the border on the right seems to be integral to the quilt. Interesting what different borders do for the overall look. So love your quilts!

  13. It's a gorgeous work of art. My opinion...no border. Frame it with a solid blue binding.

  15. Your decision making process, accompanied by photos, is always a learning exercise for me. There's lots of food for thought, as far as what you reject and the choices you make. Thanks for keeping the lessons going, Wanda.
Has anyone ever nominated you for a "quilting teacher of the year" or similar recognition? You may not be up in front of a quilting class, but you're teaching hundreds and hundreds of quilters with every post like this. We thank you for that.

  16. I returned to quilting after a 40yr absence, what a difference!! I have been researching myself with YouTube and reading fabulous blogs..so here's my dilemma, how to use the bold prints I'm drawn to. Other than a backing, what pattern suits? Thanks for advice!!!

  18. I like the dot on the left. It really keeps the theme of the quilt for me. Beautiful.

  19. I'm loving this quilt as it stands. No border, use the left orange dots for binding, IMHO.

  20. Do you have to have a border? I think that it looks great as it is.

  21. You've probably already decided by now, but just because I can, I'll comment anyway. I agree that the top two choices aren't right, and the dots are much better. I prefer the one on the right, the darker one. I think it provides more of a border, more of an ending, perhaps.
