When I walked downstairs after the art quilters left, it was TOO clean!! I'm going to have to mess it up, make it look like a working studio. OK, it will be easy.....
Even though it was predicted to have a big temperature drop during the day it stayed at 33 and sunshine the whole time the group was here. Then last night the snow started and it was down to 16 by 11 p.m.
I have finally finished the binding on this quilt started around 1998. It is my favorite of all of the trip around the world quilts that I have ever made. I have to say that it is one of my favorite quilt patterns to choose fabrics for. I think I have probably made about 20 of them over the years with all of the ones I started to demonstrate the work in progress for my classes. I made a king size in multicolor batik and sold the top in Houston when I worked at a booth in 1996. I think I would like to do one in all batik again (but not king size!).
Last night while watching TV I finished one dishcloth and started two more. I almost always have 2 on the needles at the same time. If I had 3 pairs of that size needles I would probably have 3 going at the same time. Variety is the spice of life.
It is very neat in there!!! I think I would have to go down and look at it... ever hour or so... just because it was neat. It is usually so hard to keep them that way, due to all the fun you can have getting it all messed up again.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors and the seemingly soft transition of colors in the Trip around the World. Very pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love variety too. I've got a knitting and a crochet project on the go. I often have two knitting projects.
Your trip around the world quilt is gorgeous. Have fun creating your new mess!
ReplyDeleteYou have a much bigger space than I thought! The quilt is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWish I had only half that much space! Should be easy to give it a "worked in" feel.

very nice quilt it is really pretty I have never made that design - what a huge studio you have - too bad more houses in the south do not have a basement - around here anyhow very few basements - it all has to do with the soil/rock/water combo I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteYou have a great routine -- preparing your downstairs on schedule for the art quilters. You're organizing and clearing (and probably planning future projects) every time you clean. That's a wonderful way to keep things under control.
ReplyDeleteThis trip-around-the-world just glows with your progression of colors. It's beautiful.
BTW--I like your "prove you're not a robot" with just numbers, not letters. Much easier to decipher.
The quilt is beautiful! They pre-closed schools here in anticipation of the snow. Nuts. We are officially afraid of our shadows!
ReplyDeleteIt is 6 here now, but it is not bad because there is little wind, sun, and is not snowing. Love the quilt; don't think I would have the patience with all those little squares. I am sure you can pull out projects that fill your space again. If I had more space, I would just have more projects going as I can't just work on one thing exclusively.
ReplyDeleteYour Trip is incredible. I love how easily the colors flow into each other. I'm glad the snow held off for the quilters.
ReplyDeleteLove your studio. Beautiful quilt. I need more needles :D
ReplyDeleteThe Trip Around the World is lovely. I am sure you will mess up that space in no time with your next several projects. Sometimes it feels like spinning plates trying to keep multiple projects going at the same time-but I agree, variety keeps me motivated!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on finishing the watercolor TATW!
ReplyDeleteI've been rereading Quilters Newsletter (the current stack is 1996-2000). By going through sequential issues several at a time I can really see designs and techniques emerge (and then submerge :)).
Love seeing your basement studio again. Besides your talent, your working space for YOUR projects and Art Quilters is awesome.
ReplyDeleteI so agree your TATW is right up there with my favorites that you have designed. Truly a beautiful, breathtaking work of art.
I know one of the programs your were watching last night. Me too. (*._,*) You even select the best yarns for your dish cloths. Always full of wonderful color.

What a beautiful quilt! I have made only one (for a queen size bed), and never thought of making it with batiks, but will put it on my list.
ReplyDeleteSooo... you like to knit, too! I have been knitting socks, just finished the yoke of a sweater... Having too much fun with the knitting needles!
Your Trip Around the World in beautful. May I ask what/whose pattern you use?

It is indeed!!! I love having several things going at once - on my needles and in the quilting studio. Yep, you definitely need to get in yours a "mess it up" a little LOL!
ReplyDeleteYour Trip quilt is simply GORGEOUS!!!
Very pretty. It much be nice to have finished it up.
ReplyDeleteI can certainly see why this is your favorite! The colors are expertly chosen and placed! Congrats on your amazing finish!
ReplyDeleteYour sewing space has me drooling. I think it's probably a very good thing I don't have that much room. No telling what I might do! Your Trip quilt is SO beautiful, and even the dishcloths are pretty.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to keep a studio that clean!
ReplyDeleteyes I agree the Trip quilt is awesome! and I am still addicted to knitting these dishcloths, so much fun, I have your email with directions in my knitting bag. you accomplish so much in a day you are an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had that problem of a too clean studio! And then I'd mess it up too!
ReplyDeleteI would love to know where you get that pattern for dish cloths, I've been searching and got some, but they not like the ones you are making. Love them!!
ReplyDeleteWhy do you knit your dishcloths diagonally? Any particular benefit to that? And, it looks like you're using 100% cotton yarn! is that correct?
ReplyDeleteI too love the trip around the world - and the blooming 9-patch which is a sophisticated cousin of sorts. Have you made any of the latter?
