Still playing with flannel.......

Yesterday I cut 10" strips off the 40 fabrics I had chosen for the two Stack and Slash quilts.  I pressed all of them and started cutting the one 7" square from each piece.  Today I will cut two 4.5" strips from the remainder and cut it into two 7" lengths and two 15" lengths.

The photo is my purple flannels.  They are Moda brushed fabrics and lots of them are the yarn dyed woven plaids.  I don't know what color I will mix them with for another quilt.  They look pretty good with beige and tan so that is a contender.

I have two tall piles of pieces of flannel that are less than 1/4 yard.  I need to press all of them and then cut pieces with my Studio die cutter.  I think I'll save that for a day when my friends come over to sew.

  1. I skipped the whole flannel thing.... except for using on the backs of quilts. The purple Moda and tan will be striking!

  3. Love the purples. I am sure they are going to look great in a quilt. Keep warm. Less than zero temps are not fun.

  4. Those Moda flannels are yummy! Last time I was out at Miller's in Charm I looked at the flannels and they are running almost $11 at yard! You were smart to buy a lot of these when I am sure the fabric was less expensive.

  10. That group of fabrics really is quite stunning just as it is -- will make a lovely muted, warm quilt. And in this cold, cold weather we're having, they're really really appealing!

  11. While you have frigid days, in Qld Australia, we are having heat waves of 40 and higher, we turn on A/C and sew. I don't own much flannel, look forward to the next creation.

  12. I had forgotten all about that stack and slash pattern. But now that you have reminded me, I followed all your bread crumbs back to where you gave the link to the tutorial. I have a stack of fat quarters that should be just right for that! Thanks for the reminder.

  13. I tried to check back on previous posts where you've made this quilt to if I could answer this question for myself but failed, so here it goes: do you cut all the individual pieces for the blocks in this quilt From the various fabrics and then match them up and sew the blocks, or do you cut them block by block by layering the correct number of different pieces of fabric (in this block perhaps 8), cutting all of them together, shuffling the pieces and then sewing those 8 blocks?
