Some variety..........

The black tone on tone type prints are hard to photograph.  They are much deeper color than they look here, but this is the group I chose to add.  In the photos below, the one on the left is the same as yesterday's post and the one on the right has 8 new fabrics added into the black positions.  I like scrappy quilts and all plain black is too predictable and stark for me as well as being boring to sew.  The pieces are on a small 30" x 40" design wall so I think I'll start sewing the rows together and then transfer it to a large design wall.

  1. the darks add such a great touch! I love working with blacks, but the dark blues look great....

  2. Good decision! I think that in most cases---except Amish quilts--solid fabrics tend to swallow rather than reflect light. In the second set of fabrics there are layers of intensity. Much more appealing!!

  3. black prints is something I need more of in my stash. I have very little - I was so put out about black fabrics a few years back when I used a solid black for the background on a quilt that had a lot of it and it picked up so much lint and dust - I have since learned to use black with a print on it that read black but was a print - but now I need more of them!

  4. I have a Go die in this shape. I think I'll do one of these for a veteran's quilt soon. It looks like I could clear out a bit of stash pretty quickly with it.

  6. Nice selection of prints, and adding them puts in a bit more texture than the flat black. Get sewing and have some fun!

  7. Multiple fabrics are definitely much more interesting.

  8. I think the black prints make the colors sparkle and move your eye instead of the solid black. I have a triangle fear- that is sewing them and having them fit. I only do squares and rectangles and oddly, I find circles pretty easy since I took a class. So, I admire all those triangles of yours.

  9. I agree, I like the scrappy look. I just purchased a triangle ruler yesterday. Hoping to start saving scraps and make a quilt like this someday. I don't have a lot of fabric, so it will be awhile, but I am starting to acumulate fat quarters.
