At noon I saw a flash of blue in the back yard and ran for my camera. I hoped he wouldn't leave before I got back. Later in the afternoon I saw a pair of the indigo buntings.
Yesterday afternoon I played with 4 options for triangles to use with the leftovers from the dotty zig zag. The choices are top left-hand dyed fabrics, top right-tone on tone type fabrics already cut, bottom left-black and whites, and bottom right-Roberta Horton plaids from the 1990s.
Last night I got two and a half blocks pieced for Stepping Stones. I hope I can finish them up tonight. Then there is the pieced border to work on.
Busy, busy! I think I'm partial to the two left hand options. They seem to sparkle.
ReplyDeleteWe don't get the buntings here. It's beautiful!
It rained all day so the birds were hiding here. Your triangles are gorgeous. Chris
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love the Indigos! They used to visit my feeders but haven't the last couple of years and I miss them. :)
ReplyDeleteThe combination of Kaffe fabrics with the hand-dyed fabrics is my favorite, too: Just as I like the Stepping Stone blocks with a combination of busy and quiet fabrics, I like the top left combination for the harmony of color saturation and contrast of visual texture.

I wish I would see blue birds here other than blue jays just don't see them here - what a wonderful pile of colorful scraps you have there to play with.
ReplyDeleteI love indigo buntings. We would occasionally see them this time of year when we lived in Alabama. I've never seen one in central Texas.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't ask for votes - but if you did, #1 is black and white, #2 is hand-dyeds. Fun stuff!
ReplyDeleteOh my! A blue bird. So far, I haven't seen any this year.
ReplyDeleteI love all your colorful combinations! Beautiful fabrics!
I think they really shine with the hand dyes. But then, I just love hand dyes to start with.
ReplyDeleteMy second choice would be the tone on tones.
Either of these allow the patterns to shine without too much competition and also allow spaces for the viewer's eye to rest.
What a beautiful blue he is. I've never had one in my yard.
ReplyDeleteSince we lost all the pines during Sandy we haven't had as many birds this year.
I've never seen an indigo bunting in the flesh--(or is it feathers LOL?)What a unbelievable blue! Julierose
ReplyDeleteChris has an indigo bunting in her yard this year, too!
ReplyDeleteI love the triangles with scraps of black and whites . . . one of my favorites.
Are the paper pieced blocks still fun?
Isn't it nice to see that splash of color after our long winter! I say go for the black and whites!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Wanda - I haven't seen an indigo bunting in years! Beautiful inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI love indigo buntings...such a pretty blue!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE those, I have some in my yard this year, too. They are easy to spot, just love the intensity of the blue!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to capture the indigo bunting on film! They are rare where I live, I've only seen one in the woods where my parents live. So gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI have a cardinal family that visits, so I see a splash of red. I have never seen the buntings before!! I really like your dotty zigzag quilt top and the fun of having more triangles to play with--much fun. I like all your options, but my favorite would be the Roberta Horton plaids. That is the one my eye really went to when looking at all the pics. Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteLove your Indigo Bunting. Thanks for sharing your pictures.
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm a bird lover too and these are spectacular. Not that you asked, but I like the black and white concept. Have fun.
ReplyDeletethe indigo bunting is beautiful. WE do not have them here. I went out front this evening looking for the outside stray kitty and realized there was a Robin and a squirrel right at my feet. They did not seem to notice me, either!

The blue bunting is wonderful. I just have a very old and scrappy ( been in the wars) blackbird begging for mealworms. He is busy making a nest but his looks may go against him. Love the triangles and spontaneity of your work. Very vibrant.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any buntings this year but I have had Grosbeaks in the feeder. I need to put my hummingbird feeder up and also my Orielo feeder up. I have wren nest building going on in one of my houses so far. I love the way they sing when they are making their nests. It is definitely Spring.
