Change of plans......

Yesterday two friends came over to sew and I decided to skip a day on my paper piecing project and finish this one that I last worked on in January.  I started it in July 2012 and it stayed on the design wall for months.  I cut 48 more dotted triangles with the die cutter and decided that when I ran out of them I was done.  I sewed it together into lefts and rights before I went to the design wall.  I
Last night I got the pieces up on the design wall.  I didn't see anything I wanted to change so I took it down in rows ready to sew together sometime soon.  I got bored with this one with the consistent fabric sewn to a Kaffe.  I guess I like the element of surprise when there are lots of different fabrics and I don't know what it will look like. This one was too predictable. I do like it though so I'm glad I made it.
Of course one of the exciting parts is the 252 leftover triangles, seeds for another unknown project.

  1. I can see the cogs moving in your head and the next project forming. We always have to think outside the box. Glad you got the other one pieced. Chris

  2. I know what you mean about the predictable- ness of the quilt, but you're right. It's very pretty!

  3. I love the top! Funny, I get bored using the same fabric for "background" in a quilt too. Yet I tend to love the look it gives.

  4. I personally love it, but understand the monotony. The bonus, of course, is a new project with the left overs!

  5. I like it - you have another finish so that is great.

  6. Using all one fabric for half of the triangles qualifies as "artistic restraint". I like the look of this finished top, but that sort of thing is harder for folks like us to do.

  7. Love your top. Don't worry about the sameness of the background fabric. It will just make your next scrappy quilt even better.

  8. Wanda, you are just so excellent at using colors and making them sing, that to use just one fabric over and over is a not as exciting and satisfying to look at. This quilt is wonderful, though because of the different colors, textures you used in the Kaffe prints. But the eye and heart are more fully engaged with one of your fabric wonderland symphonies of fabrics. I look to you for inspiration!

  9. Your usual way is color on color on color, something I really like. The zigzag is different but the gray really makes the Kaffe jump out so when it is done it will be a beautiful quilt, too. And I do understand the bored part, too.

  10. I know it is too predictable for you Wanda but I really, really like it! The gray dot background really appeals to me and I always love what you do with the Kaffe prints. I bet you make some mugs rugs with the little triangles!

  11. I would have gotten bored too as I have the attention span of a knat. Which is why scrappy quilts are best for me. I can tolerate a low number of fabrics, but only if they are batiks.

I love the finished product and am glad you pulled it back out!

  12. 252 left over tri's, goodness, I guess that's why your quilts are so amazing, you work with so many prints/colors and give yourself options. I like the zig zag quilt, the dots are a nice contrast to the brights.

  13. I'm amazed at how many of us have said the same thing about getting bored with using one background color. I'm glad to know I'm not alone! I say 'good on you' for finishing up the dotty quilt. It took some perseverance and the result is very nice. Now all those triangles??? THOSE are going to be fun to play with.

  15. Love it. All those polka dots seem boring, but it makes the Kaffe prints jump out. The colors are so delicious. What a nice pile of leftovers.

  17. It IS a lot more fun to play with a larger spectrum of toys, isn't it? This is really pretty though. You've still managed to make it uniquely your own.

  19. Love the energy of the piggy zags! I do that too, sometimes - pick something up out of the blue that I put aside awhile ago. That's a quilter's prerogative!

  20. yikes! typo alert! I meant piggy zags not piggy zags - I think my spellcheck got in on the act!

  21. Apparently chevrons are the in thing this year. I can see how the same dotted fabric could bet boring, quickly!

  22. I have many projects half done and finally went to the fabric store and finally bought what I needed to finish some of them. I have way too many half done projects. Now it is time to start finishing them. I love the chevron quilt top. I have one on my list of
to-dos. I am always trying to get rid of scraps.
