Yesterday 2 friends came over for sewing, conversation and pizza. They approved of my border idea for the Rattlesnake quilt (still waiting for a new name) that will make it into a rectangular shape rather than a square. There will be a strip of fabric separating the center section and the 2 borders. Then we all agreed a binding is all it will require to finish off the edges.
I am hand drawing the paper piecing border. I have a huge roll of paper that I cut a large hunk off of and then sliced it into the width pieces needed and then measured and marked the lines. When I get near the end of one piece, I tape on the next section and continue. It is going to take a little over 3 and a half sections per border.
God morning -- how will you finish the corners?
ReplyDeleteWouldn't have thought of a dogteeth border, but it is perfect!!! I've always loved that border design - brilliant to use paper piecing to achieve it.
ReplyDeleteI like your border idea and the paper piecing solution. The quilt looks great.
ReplyDeleteA lot of work for your borders. How creative.
ReplyDeleteOh WOW Wanda what a fantastic border ! I agree this design needs a name that is as grand as your design.

Great border idea.
ReplyDeletefantastic border idea that will really finish it off well!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a Spikey Peaks to me. Good choice on the borders. Chris
ReplyDeleteGreat looking border, and you are so brave and industrious to draw out the entire thing. I usually just draw a small section and copy it on the Xerox machine.
ReplyDeletevoila un ouvrage superbe !!!!!!
ReplyDeletefélicitations le choix des couleurs est très agréable
j'aim j'aime j'aime !!!!!!!!
amicalement
That's a perfect border!
ReplyDeleteHow did you figure out the width at the bottom of each spiky piece? That's the kinda stuff that throws me for a loop!
ReplyDeleteHow about "Cactus Love" for the title. I don't think of a rattle snake at all when I see it, but I do think of cactii. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt!!
You are very ambitious!
ReplyDeleteThat border is perfect for your amazing quilt! Looks like a Venus Fly Trap!
ReplyDeleteI hope your new title has the word (or idea of) teeth in it. That's what I keep seeing in the block "mouths"! And now you're adding a row of teeth on the "upper jaw" and "lower jaw." :)
ReplyDeleteThe quilt looks great!

Hi Wanda,
ReplyDeleteThe border for Mr. Snake looks great. The spikes appear to be about 2.5 inches apart (bet you had to play with that a while to get the proportions visually right).
I see teeth, but I also see hair combs (like those barrettes they used to have with teeth on both sides to hold fine hair). How about "Comb Over", or does that bring odd images to mind? Hah.
Keep warm.

Love those points! Spiky stuff always pleases me. I gotta put some into a piece. Beautiful color combination, too.
ReplyDeletebest, nadia
Flannel Peaks? (possible name)
ReplyDeleteHow about "Jaws"? Great idea for the border!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful border! In reading the previous comments, my favorite name suggestion is Venus Fly Trap. Before I read that I was thinking: Blackberry Winter, since you made the quilt in the winter, ad blackberry bushes are so prickly. Can't believe how quickly you got this done! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteThis is tops on my list of favorite quilts made by Wanda! Very nice!
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt - great work :-)
ReplyDeleteI know it as dragons's teeth and I think it's perfect! I have a printed roll of it. I've used it on one quilt so far.
ReplyDeletePerfect border! Awesome quilt. I'm enjoying watching this quilt come together.
ReplyDeleteFantastic border idea!
ReplyDeleteI like the border. You are talented to draw your own paper pieced pattern!
ReplyDeleteyour quilt is looking great! The border is perfect!
ReplyDeleteThank you thank you for the idea about paper piecing triangle borders. I have a quilt this technique will soon be used on. Soon, of course, in quilter's time....like next year, lol.
