This and that........

I cut 4 more star blocks but I didn't feel like sewing them yesterday.
I worked on the hand sewn binding a few times, finished the 2nd side and am about 1/4 of the way on the next long side.
I got a delivery on Thursday.  I didn't show it right away because they came in a box and it took a few hours for the flowers to recover from their ride.  I have never seen sunflowers and roses together in a bouquet before.  Isn't it pretty?
Thursday night at 11:45 p.m. I saw something out of the corner of my eye and turned my head to see a mouse running under the guest bed.  Yesterday I went to the hardware store and got mouse traps.  I have probably seen less than 20 mice in this house in the 40 years I have lived here.  I set the trap on the other side of the guest bed but didn't see the mouse all day.  Last night around 10 I walked into the kitchen and he was on my counter and he ran behind my counter top oven.  I got the trap from the bedroom and set it up on the counter and went back to my computer.  In less than 2 minutes I heard the snap and I had him.  I took a photo and then decided it was way too gross to put on my blog!

  1. Finishing binding is the best feeling in the world. And thanks or not showing us the dead mouse. :)

  2. I, too, thank you for not showing your "catch". Already had the willies imagining it running thru the house! Beautiful flowers.

  3. I find it very relaxing to work on hand sewn bindings. I've never seen that combination of flowers either. They're very pretty!
    Glad you got the mouse!

    The flowers are lovely.

  5. I love what you are working on, and those flowers are wonderful. I guess, since I have two cats prowling around the house at night, I will never see a mouse here.

  6. Way to catch that mouse! Sometimes it is not that easy. I have a big fat one in my garage and hope he stays there. I really like that one black print in your star quilt. The quilt is so pretty but boring blocks are hard to stay motivated with. The flowers are lovely! PS My Christmas cactus is suddenly blooming!

  7. I hope that was the only mouse you had! we haven't had any in about 10 years - every now and then over the years I have had to take care of them.
    The flowers are beautiful!!

  8. We believe you!!! No pic necessary. Now it might be necessary to set that or some other trap it get the "other" mouse...have never had just one when they move in come fall...

  9. That is so funny, I can just see you taking a picture of that mouse. Probably a good thing you didn't post it. Who did you get the flowers from? Very pretty.

  10. Thank you for not putting it on your blog! We've only ever had two mice in twenty one years and both time I've been nauseated at the sight of the animal in the trap! But truly, it's the quickest, least painful way!

  11. I'm glad you got the mouse... they scare me half to death! And I hope he left no friends or family behind....

  12. Love the flowers. Sunflowers are like sunshine. A perfect pick me up for you. We have a new(12 years new) house and we have battled mice from day one. Ugh

  13. Good job on getting the mouse. I have never seen sun flowers and roses together either. Must mean sunny days ahead filled with their love! Love the eight point stars. You taught me how to do them about 35 years ago!You are in my thoughts and prayers. martha

  14. LOL... your mouse story... NOT that he was in your house but that your fleeting thought was to put his photo on your blog. (*._,*)

I loath mice and I know you do also, especially when one finds his way into a house.

A beautiful bouquet of sunflowers and roses. I agree so very pretty. Who ever sent them had to know how you enjoy combining the unusual, and it turning out so beautiful.

  15. Good for you taking charge and getting that mouse. I have three cats that take care of that problem. You have provided comic relief this morning.

Reminds me of growing up and my Dad waking in the middle of the night and there was a mouse staring at him. LOL!

  16. I forgot to say the flowers are beautiful!

  17. I too did some hand sewing on bindings and on finishing up some pincushions. I was out of town on business and hand sewing was it.

  18. Oh, Wanda - I can SO see you setting the traps and catching that mouse!

    The flowers are GORGEOUS!

  20. Those flowers are just gorgeous.

  21. Ick--hate mice in the house. You might double check around your new heating unit (or anything else new). I started having mouse trouble after a new dishwasher (with a slightly smaller hose left a tiny opening that they were squeezing through. A little chaulk and no more mice. Those flowers are gorgeous--lucky you!

  22. Beautiful flowers. We had a mouse periodically, but we discovered that the cats thought it was a toy...absolutely no help... So, we baited a humane trap and, after we caught him, my husband released him at the grounds of a college when he ran some errands - that will be the smartest mouse ever - LOL!

  23. It will be interesting to see if you find you have a whole family yet to be caught, or if it was a lone intruder, scouting out winter digs for the family.

Beautiful arrangement. Sunflowers are such happy flowers.

  24. Oh, I'm so glad you got some pretty flowers. Somebody loves you! And yeah, that is gross, but better gross than having them running around nibbling in your house.

  25. I'll never forget the day my daughter came running to my room saying 'Mickey's in the living room!'. I thought she meant on TV...alas, he was the real deal.

  26. I'd say get a cat but it's the cats who bring them in to our house. I always worry that one mouse has brothers and sisters (and 2nd cousins twice removed). When we had them in the roof at Toad Hall we discovered chocolate sauce made the most effective bait. I quite like hand sewing bindings as long as there is no deadline....

  27. Also adding my thanks for not posting a photo. You need a cat. I hate setting those traps, so now I use a more humane trap that catches the mice and keeps them alive until I can release them somewhere down by the ravine. I know that sounds crazy, but my daughter makes me do that. Love your flowers. Those sunflowers are so sunny.

  28. hahahahaha I got a big laugh out of your post today! The flowers are lovely!

  29. In one house we lived in, we had a mouse. Hubby caught it and its brothers sisters, cousins, etc. It was a mouse a day for about 3 weeks. Saw the first one running into my fabric while watching Hocus Pocus on Halloween. Hubby caught the last one staring at him in the kitchen, the trap had been tripped byt no mouse in it. So, he threw his shoe (more like a boot than a shoe) and hit the mouse. The cats were no help.

  30. Can't imagine mice in the house - I would freak out!
You are making such great progress on your projects!

  31. The flowers were much better than the mouse :) Although I am glad you caught it!!! Never a dull moment huh, LOL I was on the phone once and one of my doggies brought me a baby possum. Laid it at my feet. I thought it was dead til it jumped up and ran into the coat closet :( I had to get some neighborly help, but we got it!! Yeech, fun times????

  32. The flowers are beautiful! I never had much luck using mouse traps so I use those sticky pads. Yes, they are not as humane, but the darn mice won't use the traps! The one mouse that was in the house last year was cornered under the steps and I ended up sucking him into the shop vac!

  33. What a beautiful floral display. Wow, in all the years I worked with flowers no one ever used roses with sunflowers and look how pretty they look together. We always felt that roses were a formal flower and sunflowers more casual. You bit on the mouse made me laugh. I could almost hear the trap get him., Glad you didn't show a picture. LOL

  34. My family had a place in the country where we went most weekends. The first night there my mother set the mouse traps w peanut butter. After 10 minutes of quiet we would hear snap, snap, snap. Mother would get up and toss the mice outside, reset the traps and go back to bed. It took about two courses to get rid of them and we never saw/heard from them again until the next weekend when we would come out. Life in the country was usually so quiet.

  35. Tis the time of year for mice. I just caught a little gray one under my sink last night. Peanut butter smushed on bread works every time. I'm glad you skipped the picture too.
