Only 3 seams.........

All I accomplished yesterday was the last 3 seams of this Jelly Roll Race quilt.  It was made from a bag of various length strips with twelve 45" long strips of red or deep rose added.  I think it ended up 62.5" x 78.5" so it is a generous size couch quilt.  It has equal to 59 full strips in it.
I have a few new blooms in the front garden.
I had to move the pots that sit in front of the garage into the garage because of the excessive heat.  It looks like they will be in there for another 5 days.
The coleus can take the heat better than the sweet potato vine.  The tomato plants love hot weather so I'm expecting some results this week.  There are 9 tomatoes on my 2 vines and I would love to see one turn red.

  1. The quilt looks fabulous! Your plants look so hardy even with all the heat!

  2. Do you think that Jelly Roll Race "pattern" works horizontally?

Just curious... I like how you are using your precut strips!

  3. It looks like you are having way to much fun with your studio cutter! You are always so productive. I suspect you will get twice as much sewing done now. Love the leaf colors on your potted plants, just lovely Wanda.

  4. Wow the coleus is amazing again this year! Love it. And Wanda, this quilt is a favorite I think. It's so neat. I love color effect.

  5. Wanda, I just love the way you have used the strips on the length of the quilt. Every other Jelly Roll Race quilt I have seen has them going across! What a simple but effective idea - you continually suprise and inspire me!

  6. I like this one (with many small pieces) much better than the traditional jelly roll race quilt....a LOT better!

  7. Beautiful quilt top! I hope your plants survive the heat and that you get red tomatoes this week.

  8. This Jelly Roll Race quilt looks Fantastic! My favorite, though all are great! Love the shorter strips and some longer strips of red and rose shades in the mix. So exuberant, good size, too!
I love to make strip quilts. Hope you don't mind if I use this idea for my next one. I want to go through to my stash and my scraps for strips of all lengths. Thank you for posting and sharing your thought process on your blog. :)

  9. I am waiting for tomatoes too. Have lots set on but nothing turning yet. This hot weather is good for tomatoes and corn.

  10. I am surprised anything or anyone is surviving the heat you are having. Wow!

We have been enjoying our tomatoes for the past few weeks. There is nothing like those fresh tomatoes from the garden.

    Great job on the quilt.

  11. The quilt is really beautiful. It's hard for me to imagine creating a jelly roll quilt without having it turn out all wavy, so I'm quite impressed, as usual, with your work. :-)

  13. I love this quilt -- so colourful and rich!
We've had very little rain this month and now with this heatwave, the trees are already losing some leaves.

  14. I made one jelly roll quilt and wasn't pleased with it. But after seeing your quilt using the different length strips, I love it. I'm going to try and make another one using your method. Thanks for sharing.

  15. Love your Jelly Roll top. Your coleus looks amazing. I picked my first tomato today. My plant are wilting in this heat wave we're having, but I have nowhere to put them. It is even hotter in the shed.

  16. I love the fabrics on your quilt. The one I made I am not crazy about. I used to many solid color fabrics. I just don't like it but I may applique something on it and that may do the trick.

I watered my plants late afternoon and it got really breezy for awhile and then nothing. Tomorrow I will sew or at least try to clean up the sewing room a bit. Stay cool, I can't wait until this heat is over.

  17. This one turned out pretty, too. I think I like the continuous ones better than the ones with stops.
