I did go out to fill the bird feeders though and finally figured out where the robin's nest is. The robin has been 'warning me' as I walk to the back yard but I didn't find the nest in the usual place, the crook of the downspout. If you look close you can see one adult and one baby with its mouth open. The sun was glaring on the screen of the camera so I wasn't even sure I got this shot until I put it in the computer.
Then I was reading blogs and saw what Vicki Welsh is making. I decided it was time to get out the fabric I have purchased from her over the last 2 years and USE IT! But first....... I had to clean off the tables.
One table had a stack of blue jean legs ready to cut up for quilts. I opened my 8.5" die and cut 46 squares. One table cleaned off.......
Another table had the pieces of batik that I had sewn together last Wednesday for a Jelly Roll Race quilt. I sewed the first 2 seams last night, the really long seams, so I have 3 seams left to sew this morning and then 2 tables are cleared off.
The star quilt is still waiting for its last 3 blocks but I can start dreaming about what shape I want to use for the hand dyed fabrics. I love triangles but also considered a modular layout-lots of square and rectangular shapes.
A girl has to do what she has to to stay cool. I think today and tomorrow which is suppose to be worse I will be finding a box of scraps and doing something with them also. Stay Cool. Chris
ReplyDeleteYes, the heat can make you feel a little bit blah at times. But I must say, I so prefer this over the doldrums of winter. I just love Vicki's fabric and have done my share of purchasing from her, looking forward to seeing what you will be making.
ReplyDeleteBoxes of scraps - I am dealing with mine too as you know with the zig zag patches I made. I can't wait to see what you do with yours!
ReplyDeleteStaying inside and sewing is a great way to spend super hot and humid days! The denim squares and the die made me smile... your studio GQ! is getting a work out!
ReplyDeleteThat's the way to clean spaces...sew them clean!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you will create with the Vicki Welsh fabrics. I just love watching baby birds grow - thanks for sharing the photo :)
ReplyDeleteTry to stay cool today.
I am curious as to what you will make with Vicki's fabric. I only have one piece - a one yard cut of red that I won from her last year. I don't know what to use it for - I hate to cut into it because of the design on it!! I keep looking at it and have it where I won't forget about it.

It is such fun watching your process . . . so grateful you share yourself with us!
ReplyDeleteYou've certainly turned your weather "lemons" into lemonade! What a lot you accomplished. You put me to shame.
ReplyDeletecan't wait to see what you have planned for the denim squares
ReplyDeleteI don't think you're going to let any dust settle on your studio cutter. It looks like great fun, and I'm sure it'll get you from one project to the next more quickly.
ReplyDeleteAnother 18-24 hours of high heat and humidity here, then 4 days of scattered showers. Sounds like quilting time, no matter what the weather. Time to stay indoors.
Can't wait to see what all you cut out of your scrap boxes! The Studio cutter really looks neat. I have seen Vicki's fabrics on her blog and will love seeing what you do with it. Try to stay cool!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you cut from your scrap boxes.
ReplyDeleteThe heat/humidity can be a bit overwhelming, but I'll take it over the winter cold any day!
Looks like when it gets cooler you will be ironing and cutting fabric. How great to be able to cut them out so fast. As I said before, I am jealous. LOL I sat in the sewing room and cut out a little for one quilt and started cutting out for my hexie quilt. At least I am in the air-conditioning. Stay cool and have a great evening.
