I put the new blocks up on the wall and rearranged the ones that were already there. The star corners are just placed there so I can see what it will look like; they aren't probably the colors that will be in the final quilt. Some star corners would end up at the edge and extend into the border. I'm trying to decide if I want to do that or just place plain corner blocks in those spots.
I know some of you think I am a good gardener, but the truth is I haven't spent quality time in the flower beds for the last 3 summers. If you look closely at this photo you will see weeds and maple trees, and maybe a redbud tree.
This is the front of the same flower bed with the butterfly weed right next to the sidewalk and the shorter plants behind it. Even the cracks in the sidewalk are overgrown. I think I might be at the point where I will have to ask for help to get this all under control. I can see 3 redbud trees in this photo. It has been above 90 for 2 days with 6 more days of it predicted. All I can say is I'm glad it isn't over 100 degrees like so much of the country is.
When it was 97° here yesterday afternoon, the last thing I was thinking was "Boy, am I glad it's not 100° here!"
ReplyDeleteAnd now the humidity is arriving. That makes it worse than where there is "dry heat."
I'm taking my embroidery into the a/c room later...but there is only so much I can do in there.
*whine, whine*
The stars are looking fabulous! So funny about the garden, I am like that too, not much quality time there for a while. But it still looks good. Sometimes it is not such a bad thing to get some help.
ReplyDeleteIt was 98*F yesterday here. so I am not looking forward to the rest of this week. The stars are really looking great. Chris
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! I'd have to see more to really be sure on the triangles in the border but my inclination now would be to leave them out.
ReplyDeleteI am loving the stars!
ReplyDeleteI love your stars! My garden looks a lot like yours. I haven't been out to look after it for only a couple of days and already the weeds have taken over. I just pull up a few really tall ones when I see them. Today I am going out for awhile because it is cloudy, well a bit cloudy.
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm loving the star quilt! You just keep coming up with one great quilt idea after another!
ReplyDeleteYour new blocks are so pretty. My favorite is the one on the bottom right. I love the colors in it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a great gardener either. I have worked very hard this year to try to get my yard under control. My husband is not much help. He mows, but that's all. He has an injured shoulder now so he's really been no help. That's why I've had poison ivy 4 times this summer even though i've never had it before in my 9 years!!!! It's hot here, too. I don't know how many days we've had in the 90's but too many to count and too many to do the things I've been doing outside. We still have a few things to do, but I'm sewing this week!!!
Those stars are really gorgeous, but you garden is too.
ReplyDeleteI know from my own experience that these stars require precise piecing. Your blocks are very pretty.
ReplyDeleteYour stars are all so lovely! That's going to be a wonderfully fresh and colourful quilt.
ReplyDeleteI don't think any of us are working out in the garden with this heat. For the first time ever, I paid someone to come out and do some yard clean-up, and composting and mulching. It was totally worth the cost. Good luck with yours!
ReplyDeleteI like the new stars especially the bottom left one. I have been in the sewing room all day and as 7usual working on a couple of projects at once. You garden looks fantastic. It reminds me of a country garden. I just came in from watering my zinnias. They are finally starting to bud and soon I will have cut flowers in the house all the time. Stay cool, more hot weather for days. I guess we will get lots of sewing done.
ReplyDeleteThe colour keeps drawing me back to those stars!
ReplyDeleteOur garden is overrun by weeds even though it's mid-winter! We have had so much rain that the weeds are loving it!
I am very impressed with your stars. I think this is going to be an awesome quilt any which way you decide on those blocks.
ReplyDeleteAs for flower gardening, I sorta' relate. I used to be really interested in grooming our beds and planting things, and all that. But then my dh got really into it, also, and he takes off re-doing all the work I'd done. Moved stuff around, reconfigured the beds, even created walkways and paths. So I just turned it all over to him. And he's done a really good job of it, I have to admit. He enjoys it so; it's become a very rewarding hobby for him ~ much like quilting is for me. My only job now is to water the flowers growing in pots.
