I made another batch of squares from pieces cut on my Studio die cutter. I was talking to a friend yesterday and she didn't know there was more than one die cutter. All she had ever heard about was the GO and she thought that was the name of the company. When she asked why I got the Studio model, I said I liked the dies available for it better than the dies available for the 2 portable die cutters, the GO and GO Baby. I know a lot of people like the portable feature but I didn't think I would have any reason to take mine anywhere.
I made three stars with variations in the center.
I have 7 more stars to make and then I'll be ready to move on to a new project. I will need to choose the fabrics for the last stars to balance out the colors. So far I was just cutting from scraps with no rhyme or reason for the colors.
I have 3 colors of Rose of Sharon in bloom.
I think I may have another shade of lavender in a different location.
Unfortunately the Rose of Sharon reseeds and I have way too much of it.

Glad to see how much fun you are having with the studio accuquilt! My best sewing buddy has had one for more than 3 years and now my neighbor with the long arm business has one now too. I have several dies of my own and often use the model called AccuCut. It was meant for cutting paper, but it works on fabric as well!

ReplyDeleteThe variation in your stars adds a little sparkle. I never tire of quilts with stars. I've been reading about Rose of Sharon lately. Folks up north, your way, have a problem with reseeding. Down south folks don't report that. I just find that interesting. A beautiful plant. I just bought another.

ReplyDeleteYour Rose of Sharon photos gave me an "ah hah" moment and sent me searching. The family similarity is easy to see. I've just learned that your Rose of Sharon flowers, my hollyhocks, and hibiscus flowers are all related, they're called malvas, and they're edible and can be medicinal. Wonderful Sunday morning education. Your flowers are as gorgeous as your stars. :)

ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the cutter. I wouldn't be carrying it around with me so I would want what you bought. I love the star quilt. I also have Rose of Sharon here also but only the double pink is blooming. There is a bunch in the back yard but they have not started to bloom yet. I hope you are staying cool.

What beautiful blooms. Your blocks are beautiful, too. I love the star block. It has so many possibilities for design. I have not seen the Studio die cutter before. What a qizmo. Now, if someone makes a gizmo that cuts the triangles and sews them together all in one motion, that is one for me! LOL!

ReplyDeleteAnd I have several of those shrubs, too, but I call them altheas. LOL I've seen them my whole life, starting in MIssissippi where I grew up. They are a very hardy plant.
These cutters are such a temptation, but space is a real issue for us. Enjoy your new tool!

How are you holding up in the heat? Looks like we get Southern style hot and humid weather for at least a week around here, I'm guessing you will, too. We just had three troublesome trees removed, but now I wonder if we should have waited until fall. Could have used the shade right now!
