More quilts and misc. from the fair

This "Best Over-all tote" winner is by the same lady who did the tiny 9 patch quilt that I showed yesterday.  It looks like she might have used some of the same fabrics in this project.

Here is a little closer shot of the 9 patch quilt where I can now see she used a variety of fabrics in the plain squares.  One of the ladies working there said the 9 patches have 1/2" finished squares.

The quilts are folded over pipes and in some areas have 2 layers high.  Other areas have afghans above and clothing below a single row.

You can click on the pictures for a closer view.

They had a lot of new catagories this year to accomodate the people who have someone else quilt their quilts for them.  I picked up a fair book so I can check that out.

This chair was for sale in one of the commercial buildings.

Some people had luck with their flowers even though we had a challenging hot summer.

More pictures tomorrow.

  1. do you ever entry into the fairs? I did two years in our local but I did not care for the way they are displayed and also no signs out for people not to touch and no security - someone lost a quilt there one year from it most likely walking away from the fair on the arm of someone - if you get my meaning! After that I decided it was not worth it - the area is also a dusty barn next to the animals and no air conditioning so there is a big fan at the back of the barn that is turned on and all the dust and dirt swirls around.

  3. Thank you for a lovely post! Such a shame space did not allow proper display...such wonderful creations to be layered and squashed! Thank you for sharing your photos!

  4. I have to tell you a funny story about that 9 patch quilt. I have a woman in my guild that is a real overachiever. She made 3 of those quilts, all queen sized...one for each one of her children. When she mailed one of them off to her son, he called her and said, "Mom, I thought you knew that we have a california king bed". Believe it or not, she didn't blink an eye and promptly made them one in the correct size!

  5. What a great selection of quilts -- too bad they're not able to show a bit more of each quilt though!

That chair, while interesting, looks rather uncomfortable! :-)

  7. I believe the 9 patch is called a Postage Stamp quilt. I have the instructions for one, and just can't bring myself to make anything so time consuming. Maybe this winter. Wouldn't that be gorgeous in batiks ?
