I like to try some of the old traditional quilt blocks even though I might make only one block of a lot of them. I was able to take a workshop from Marsha McCloskey and learn the drafting and sewing tips of the different types of Feathered Star. She is an expert on this pattern and has written a few books about Feathered Star quilts. Since I have an extensive garment sewing background, my sewing machine has always been my friend. It was a challenge to get all of the points to match on this one but my machine and I like a challenge now and then.
What a fantastic block! I once started a feathered star, but it was during my first or second year of quilting and I wasn't able to finish it. Seeing your block makes me want to try again.

Sewing machines become and extension of your arms. When I have been out of one for repairs I go nuts. My 82 year old mother just went through that and she was so glad I took her to pick hers up yeaterday. Beautiful block. Chris
I love the Feathered Star block too. I treated myself to Marti Michell's set of special templates for this block which also make success more likely! The templates have the pesky corners already snipped off when you cut with those templates. I have to say too that Jan Krentz's methods for setting in those triangles and corner squares is great, too. Is there a Lone Star with all those gorgous Fasset fabrics something you might do? I love Jan's stripping method of construction for that smashing block!
That is gorgeous!! I'd love to make a feathered star quilt and even have fabric tucked away for one -- some day! I'd be tempted to put a small border on that block, quilt it and hang it as a mini quilt all on its own. Love your fabric choices!
Beautiful block. Love the colors. When you make your fudge, do you make more than one batch? I noticed in the recipe it fits into a 9 inch pan. It looked like you had a lot more than that in your picture. Congrats on winning that beautiful fabric from Jackie. Woohoo!!!
