Feathered Star
I like to try some of the old traditional quilt blocks even though I might make only one block of a lot of them. I was able to take a workshop from Marsha McCloskey and learn the drafting and sewing tips of the different types of Feathered Star. She is an expert on this pattern and has written a few books about Feathered Star quilts. Since I have an extensive garment sewing background, my sewing machine has always been my friend. It was a challenge to get all of the points to match on this one but my machine and I like a challenge now and then.
What a gorgeous block Wanda. I think you matched the points very. Well done machine and I. lol
ReplyDeletewow. always has been my favorite quilt block though I never had the courage to do it.
ReplyDeleteyours is gorgeous
What a fantastic block! I once started a feathered star, but it was during my first or second year of quilting and I wasn't able to finish it. Seeing your block makes me want to try again.
ReplyDeleteyou and your machine are an extraordinary force! This Feathered Star is so precise - wow-ser. And you always make it appear easy! Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAmazing work and amzing detail Wanda. In addition your choice of fabrics gives this block a nice fresh look. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you met the challenge with flying colors!! The block is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThat's another block that's on my sewing bucket list! Yours is lovely!
ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC... beautifully pieced... and gorgeous colors.
ReplyDeleteGreat Class Accomplishment!!! You did well!!!

That is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWow, you get me everytime! Fabulous, no one but you would put those fabrics in that block. Outta the ballpark! And...such precision!
ReplyDelete"Wanderful" It just sings.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful block - love your colors too.
ReplyDeleteI hope to take a workshop with Marsha later this September in Valdez, Alaska. Very nervous about meeting her!!
Sewing machines become and extension of your arms. When I have been out of one for repairs I go nuts. My 82 year old mother just went through that and she was so glad I took her to pick hers up yeaterday. Beautiful block. Chris
ReplyDeleteThat's a beauty! I'm hoping you'll continue with more of these blocks so we can see a finished quilt! Your work is always inspirational!
ReplyDeleteI love the Feathered Star block too. I treated myself to Marti Michell's set of special templates for this block which also make success more likely! The templates have the pesky corners already snipped off when you cut with those templates. I have to say too that Jan Krentz's methods for setting in those triangles and corner squares is great, too. Is there a Lone Star with all those gorgous Fasset fabrics something you might do? I love Jan's stripping method of construction for that smashing block!
ReplyDeleteWOW! That is pretty amazing--those small pieces totally intimidate me. You did a great job!
ReplyDeleteYes that is quite a challenge allright; and you did it proud.
ReplyDeleteNeedle art at it's best ! As always your fabric choice's make the design dance right off my computer, and into my heart.

That is gorgeous!! I'd love to make a feathered star quilt and even have fabric tucked away for one -- some day!
ReplyDeleteI'd be tempted to put a small border on that block, quilt it and hang it as a mini quilt all on its own. Love your fabric choices!
this is a beautiful block!
ReplyDeleteGreat block - I made a feathered star recently but wimped out and paper pieced. It worked but I would like to make one without paper piecing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful block. Love the colors. When you make your fudge, do you make more than one batch? I noticed in the recipe it fits into a 9 inch pan. It looked like you had a lot more than that in your picture. Congrats on winning that beautiful fabric from Jackie. Woohoo!!!
