A bloom, an almost finish, an new idea...

I noticed at 4 p.m yesterday that the amaryllis is starting to bloom. I'll take more pictures as the other flowers open.I finished the last 2 blocks for this star quilt. You have all been very encouraging and like the color/fabric choices. It has not met my expectations and that is my own fault. I wanted it to be more purple and the gold/rust color seems to be taking over. I still have a chance in the border however. I will leave the blocks on the design wall and audition some borders.
Here are leftovers from production line cutting when I started. I may use some of them in one of the borders. So, I hit the books last night. I needed some inspiration so I grabbed the 2 collaborative quilt books. I have seen the idea below done in all florals somewhere too and it is a definite possibility of some playtime fun in the near future. Gwen and Freddy have a whole section devoted to the spare parts that they have combined into quilts. I have the spare parts below left from a quilt I made about 3 years ago. They look like good centers for some log cabin style wonky blocks. I will be teaching a finishing class today, so no sewing until evening.

  1. Love your quilt top Wanda. The purple and the vibrant green are just a wow! I automatically home in on the purple. I suppose it is a different colour to different people. Waiting in anticipation for the border! Take care.

I love the 'left overs' from production line. It looks so good as one could eat it! Nice display.

  5. Your quilt is just coming out gorgeous!! I am so glad that you put the light blocks in, it really makes it work. Oh, I have Freddy and Gwen's books and frequently refer to them. Love their ideas and can't wait to see what you will come up with.

  6. The flower is beautiful. I had one years ago and they are so beautiful. When I was doing cross stitch I found a chart for one and just had to stitch it. I have one of Gwen and Freddy's books and borrowed the other from the library and they are such a riot of color! I can't wait to see what you come up with. I tune in everyday although I don't comment often.

  8. I don't see a lot of purple but a border can certainly change that. I really like the concept of a parts department. I'll be designating a drawer to it.

  9. I bought my dad an amaryllis for a Christmas present many years ago. It was a big red one, and he enjoyed it so much. He's been gone for nearly 20 years now, but seeing your amaryllis reminded me of how much pleasure he took in his.

Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous. I think we're our own worst critics.

  10. Wanda, I am enjoying each new pic of the blocks. Your colors are delightful but I do see the rust trying to be the star of the show!
I think the bright greens are a very good balance for the rust and that lets your purples really stand out.
Looking forward to the next post and border auditions!

  14. I see a lot of purple in the quilt - probably because it's a strong color and just jumps right out at you, but it's your quilt and like you said, you can always add more purple in the border.

  15. The purple is definitely there and very rich.
Oh, how pretty that flower is.

  16. If you want more purple...what if you used a purple border between the stars with an orange/rust cornerstone? I like it as is...don't want you to be dissappointed! :)

  17. These blocks are very colorful and pretty. Isn't it funny that as we work on one project we are working on the next one (or 2 or 3) in our heads?

  20. I see the purple most but then my eyes always go to purple! You'll make it happen! Of that I am sure. It looks great to me!

  21. I really love how your top turned out. I like to leave mine on the wall too and audition border fabrics. It's fun to change them around and look at it throughout the day.
