Big bloom, new project.....

The first flower is totally open now, number 2 is almost as big and the other 3 buds have a ways to go. I love this color in the middle of winter.Last night I started the new project with the spare parts (see yesterday's post). Below is a black and white scrap bag emptied on my sewing cabinet.
Next came the Kaffe fabrics scrap bag.
Here are the first 2 blocks. I finished 2 more but didn't get them trimmed yet.
And this is the mess that it creates when you work on this style block. I know Suzie Homemaker wouldn't be able to stand this mess, but I'm not related to her so it doesn't bother me.
I spent some time pressing some of the wrinkled fabrics from the 2 scrap bags last night and I will cut some of the larger ones down to smaller pieces today.

  1. Hi Wanda: Oh yes, I know about the messes as I've been cleaning and sorting too...must be the new year thing.
I love what you do with your colours although I'm just not able to put fabric together and make it look Exuberant as the saying goes.
Clean up the mess though...a little grinning here!

  3. After seeing those wonderful pictures of your scraps, you've inspired me to start digging through mine! Letting go and letting a mess pile up while you're working isn't a problem. It can always be stuffed back into the drawer or bag later!

  7. Imagine having scraps sorted by designer!

Susie comes to visit me, but not often enough. However, the creative muse has a way of banishing Miss Susie very quickly. Do you think that is why Susie doesn't visit often?

  8. Isn't a messy work space the sign of a creative genius? If it isn't it ought to be. Isn't it amazing what came out of your scraps. Those blocks are just great! And the Amaryllis is just too beautiful.

  9. Hi Wanda -- how great that you are also using Kaffe fabrics on your project. I had pulled out my 2 1/2 Kaffe strips to clean out the drawer and making a simple hexagon quilt. I love the way you have incorporated the black and white fabrics.....and I love your mess!

  11. Love the flower, I didn't get any of them this year.
I was doing the same as you last night, presses bits from a scrap box and making circles. I told my husband next year I really need to try to make just scrap quilts as I have so many and I never feel like I make a dent in them.

  12. Very exuberant. well, maybe not that lovely flower. I like what you are scrapping together. Too much creative clutter confuses me and then Susie needs to do a bit of group sorting. But then I'm up for the creative mess.

  16. Woo, I had a mess like that yesterday (and one that pretty much STAYS that way! YIKES). I am continually amazed at all your starts AND finished. And all so beautiful (even though you say you don't like them sometimes).

  17. Wanda,
My husband and I tried your breakfast smoothie, Cheerios, and cashews twice this week. Yummy. His comment was that he didn't feel hungry shortly afterward as he usually does.

  18. Amaryillis is beautiful. Photo is a keeper.

I always love what you do with the smallest strips of scraps. These two blocks are full of zing.

The mess on your table is what all of us can relate too. Makes us feel good to see that we are just like you, our creative teacher, in some respects. I know you will put all of this back in their zip locks before the next project.

  19. Maybe we're related, because I do seem able to tolerate this kind of creative "mess" (at least for a little while) and I'm definitely not related to Susie Homemaker either! LOL Gorgeous blocks, as always.
