16 blocks completed.

I had every intention of making these blocks 16-18" but I was running out of strips in my scraps and would have to actually cut some for the project so I settled for 15" finished blocks. I have about 8 hours of sewing in them even doing them production line and not planning any of the blocks ahead of time. I just grabbed the next strip, any width different than the previous one and tried to vary the dark, medium, and light values as I sewed. This first layout is how I envisioned the blocks as I was making them.On this next one I just changed the four corners to pointing out instead of in.
I had to try every block in the same position too. I like this one.
You can see on this block below that I pieced strips together too because there were way too many short ends left over. I just matched widths of strips and put any two together that were the same width. I'll leave the blocks up on the design wall for a couple days and then decide its final layout.
The new Amaryllis stalk has 5 buds too, just like the first one. I think last year's bulb (farthest away) is only going to have 4 buds but I can't tell for sure yet. The snow storm has started. Now we'll see if we really get the 8-12" that they are predicting.

  1. I like all the layouts but I think I like the first most.
Did you try the last layout with every other row going the opposite direction? I am trying to envision that layout and would love to see it if you try it.
I am loving these blocks and may have to try this for myself.

  6. I love the first one too. A cat would walk carefully on it, not to fall down in the black holes.
What a treasure of colourful material you have!

  8. I like the third one best. It looks like wonky, very bright attic windows. I'll send some of our snow if you don't get enough.

  16. Wanda, What fun this must have been! I cannot decide which one I like best. Whichever one you choose will be outstanding. I may have to try this soon. We are supposed to get up to 14 inches of snow as well. I went into work and the roads were not so good. I decided to come home after an hour or so, and the roads were even worse yet! It's time to hunker down, but I don't mind more "free" time to sew.

  17. Those first two make it look very three-dimensional...but I like them all. It's very, well, exuberant!

I shoveled about 4" at 7am, and it's coming down harder now. Snow day!

  20. Love the first as well, speaking of which it seems that's what that black fabric does, draws you into each block like the bottom of a well.

  27. Luscious luscious color! I love the depth achieved in the last one. It just draws you in.

Another winner Wanda....we are experiencing the same snow storm as you. It is covering up all the dirty snow banks with fresh sparkly white again.
