I didn't get to sewing because of outside work yesterday but last night I was putting some blocks into the orphan bin and I noticed this block. I used to take a lot of workshops that one of our guilds offered. In this workshop we learned to piece a pictorial scene.
This is the wrong side where I see I have pencil marks along the seam lines on some of the pieces. Now I know that some people could just throw this in the wastebasket and not think twice about it. Who knows if I will ever get the orphan blocks all made into a quilt. Maybe that box of orphan blocks will be the best seller at my estate sale........someday.

The only difference between this photo and the one yesterday is that the top is sewn together! It looks even better now. I will look for borders today. I'm thinking a dark narrow border and a red print for a little wider one.
I mowed the grass yesterday so I didn't get any other sewing done.
I finished the yellow dishcloth last night. This one has a YO that is passed over 2 purl stitches in a series of 4 rows for the pattern. I rarely knit more than 4 rows a day on it. The other pattern I use is so much easier.
I was cleaning off a table in the basement and found a pile of star blocks (from here) and some Kaffe 16 patch blocks left over from this quilt. There were 25 blocks of each kind, 50 total so 6 x 8 would be 48 blocks. It will measure about 48" x 64" when sewn together. I think I'll put a border on it to increase the size a little. I thought about putting the blocks on point, but I wanted an easy project.
I finished another 2 tone dishcloth. Both balls had some of the same colors so I thought they would look good together. Since the center color was the end of a ball I had to estimate how many rows to knit with the lighter color. This time it came out balanced with the same number of rows of the lighter color on both corners.
I didn't go back to the fair yesterday but I took quite a few photos on Thursday. Here is one more wall of quilts with afghans hanging on the top bar.
Here is a close up of one in the center of the photo above. It is my friend Sarah's. I really like quilts with lots of floral fabrics.
This is another of Sarah's quilts. She starched the t-shirts instead of using interfacing and it worked great. It is a really large quilt and the interfacing would have added so much weight to it.
I really like the colors in this one. I didn't find out who made it.
Yo-yos are appliqued on this quilt.
I have mentioned before that our county fair is the largest county fair in IL. There are several buildings with entries of all sorts. This is all wood carvings.
In this same building are the doll clothes entries. There were categories with dressed dolls and just doll clothes.
For most quilts I don't usually pull a whole selection at once. If I do I'll lose interest in the quilt eventually. I did pull everything for this one so that probably means I'll be starting a second scrappy one to work on at the same time.
This is the book with the directions for 2 quilts using the same style blocks. I'm sure there are even more layouts that would work too so I'll be experimenting.
I got a few pieces cut and sewn and will have lots to show by next Friday. You can click on the link for the Fractured Quilt Along on my right side bar and check out colors and layouts that others are doing at any time.
Actually I already went to the fair, yesterday. A friend was going out in the morning so I rode out with her, walked around for 2 1/2 hours and then walked home, about 13 blocks. That did me in for the day.

Well............the top is sewn together. Four times yesterday I thought it was the final design, and each time when I saw the photo on the computer monitor I knew I had to move a block. In the late afternoon I was happy with it and sewed it together. It is approximately 56" x 72".
My orange cactus plant has a bunch of new growth at the base of the plant. This is so exciting because this one hasn't grown very much over the years. I'm surprised that all of the cacti liked being in direct sunlight for 3 hours each morning.
Here is another view. It has almost doubled in size as well as all of the new growth from the base of the plant.
I have some new fall flowers on the porch thanks to a sister-in-law and a niece.
