Backing, binding...................

I was happy to find I had enough of this print for the back of the butterfly quilt.  It is used as the large wings on 2 of the butterflies.

I trimmed the 'Sunday Only' quilt and found the group of partial width Kaffe strips.  Some are over 30", others as short as 10".

After sorting through them, this the batch I decided to use.  I pieced one long strip and when I sewed the binding onto the quilt, I didn't need the last 3.

I originally planned to sew the binding on this quilt all by machine, but when I decided to use a scrappy binding, I think hand stitching is the better choice.  I got one short side and part of one long side hand stitched last night.

  2. Such a pretty scrappy binding, Wanda--and that backing--good you had enough as it is just perfect;))))
Only 31 this morning here; still no rain in sight. The fallen leaves just fall apart they are so dried out...
There are over 100 fires in our state that have broken out--a bit scarey as we live surrounded by woods here....hugs, Julierose

  3. Isn’t it the best when you find the left over fabric will be enough for the backing? It will make the quilt, having all the colors as the front :) I agree about hand sewing the binding when lots of short pieces are included…..makes for a smoother, cleaner finish.

  7. Were you able to avoid a binding-strip seam at all the corners? The wavy print will be great for the butterflies.

  9. The multicolored wavey fabric is perfect for the back! I love a good scrappy binding even though it doesn't make a dent in the scrap pile! LOL!!
