I guess I won't know unless I try it. I pressed the fabrics and cut some triangles.
I changed out some of the florals with dotted fabric. I have lots more cutting to do so I can think about this. Any opinions?
There was a waste triangle at each end when I cut the quarter square triangles and it was the right size to cut a 2" half square triangle. I will start a mini storage box with these triangles and no project is in mind for them yet.
I think the dots jump out and the flowers fade into background. Personally, I like it better with just flowers.
ReplyDeleteI like the dots. Gives the eyes a place to rest.
ReplyDeleteI think the dots make it a tad too busy??? Just a thought.
ReplyDelete31 here this morning and sunny--today we are meeting some friends for lunch--so that will be a nice change...no cooking today;)))
hugs, Julierose
I love the Spot, can't go wrong with dots! I don't know if it gives the eye a place to rest or not but then I love chaos. In a quilt anyway.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness I luv it! I luv polka dots so for me they make everything better lol opinions & advice is good to have but in the end what truly calls you & makes you smile against all odds will be the winning choice which I have no doubt you already know ❤️
ReplyDeleteI like the dots, but I'm a polka dot person!
ReplyDeleteI like the dots. I think you can see the florals easier rather than all the florals blending together. I am sure it looks different in person and you will study it both ways with your expert eye!
ReplyDeleteoooh serious drooling here...his stripes and dots always make me swoon....very very pretty indeed...me i'm waiting on the william morris line in december...
ReplyDeleteFrom just this small photo I say no, it looks like a jumbled mess. But you’re the expert and you can see the fabrics right in front of you. Starr
ReplyDeleteI'm torn. I love his spot fabrics but with your florals I'm thinking the darker toned dot combinations will blend with the florals (if that is the look you're going for). Play around with it - you'll find an excellent solution (you always do).
ReplyDeleteI vote for the dots, but I wonder what it would look like if you repeated the dot fabric in the block, on the opposite side. Might be too busy, but I found myself thinking that’s what I’d see when you mentioned adding the dot.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what it is about dots, but I find them very attractive in a quilt. But I also loved it with just florals, so I'm no help. What do you like?
ReplyDeleteI love polka dots so I was thinking YES to the idea, but in this small sample, I think they take over and actually stop my eyes from moving around. Sorry…
ReplyDeleteI'm for polka dots. Never seen them in a quilt I didn't like. Now that's just me!
ReplyDeleteSpot fabric adds interest to me. I agree with the commenter who would like to see 2 of the same spots in each QST. You know what you like so I look forward to the end product.

I like the dots, though some combinations I like better than the others.
ReplyDeleteTop row, the 2nd, 4th, and 5th with the colors that most meet up with the opposite triangle are my favorites.
Second row 5th block with colors blendign with the adjacent triangle are good too, not quite as good as when they blend with the opposite triangle though.
Top row 3rd, and bottom row 2nd & 4th, something seems a bit off, like the dots grab the attention.
Then again, these "off" blocks will probably be the ones that add sparkle and interest to keep a whole quilt from being too much "goes with".
I like polka dots but perhaps just a few sprinkled among the flowers. Do you have any grunge-type tone on tones to add to this mix?
ReplyDeleteThe DOTS take away from the florals in my opinion. I scrolled back to the all floral blocks you showed on Tuesday and preferred those. I know you will create what makes you happy and I will love it.
ReplyDeleteAs others have said and I agree, those darling dots seem just too loud for the wonderful florals.
ReplyDeleteThanks for asking!
Hugs!
I love the dots! Looking forward to seeing whether you go with the dots, or not use them. I know whatever you decide will be amazing!!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I hope you have a wonderful birthday tomorrow! They seem to come around quicker as we get older, don’t they? I hope you have a day filled with good things that make you happy, all day long, as you begin another year!!

Seems most like the dots. I’m not such a fan of them with the florals but it will be interesting to see what you decide.
ReplyDeleteI’m on Team No Dots. Too busy for me personally. I think that floral-dot-floral -dot would become pretty repetitive/uninteresting with those size pieces in a full-sized quilt.
ReplyDeleteI love just the mix of flowers - like a cottage garden at dusk. (I don't grow polka dots in my cottage garden). I would save the dots to mix with a quilt of stripes and/or plaids. But that's me! Go where your heart takes you!
