Finish #3 for August 2024......................

My interpretation of the Kaffe Fassett Fonthill quilt is finished.  I like my quilts more rectangular than the original in "Passionate Patchwork" so I made the center panel narrower and taller.  I followed the color scheme loosely since I was using lots of batik scraps to cut my triangles.  I also used lots of triangle squares that were already sewn with a miscellaneous group of prints, some Kaffe, some other fabrics.  It is approximately 62.5" x 75".

The backing is one of Kaffe's older prints that he reissued a couple years ago.

This quilt has Warm and Natural batting because I wanted a flatter look than I get with my usual Hobbs batting.  It was quilted by my longarm friend Robin Diaz.

  3. Beautiful - when I study it to see what I especially like, the peachy yellow pink internal borders seem subtle but influence the whole, as do the dark/warm triangles. Always something to learn from your quilts!

  7. Fonthill was patterned in one of the Chitra magazines (Trad Quiltworks? Quilting Today?) back when Kaffe's book was published. I tore the pattern out of the magazine and kept it. Along the way I acquired the book. At one point (maybe 15 yrs ago?) I started a fabric pull for it but didn't get very far. Now that I've seen yours I am intrigued all over again!

  9. I love it! What a gorgeous quilt! I like how you turned it from square to rectangular. I would have done that, too.

  10. I love your version of the Fonthill quilt with your joyful use of colors, fabrics, and the layout! Perfect backing and binding fabrics, too.
Bask in the pleasure of your accomplishment in making yet another one-of-a-kind-on-the-planet quilts. Too many quilts these days are copies down to the fabric placement (boo hiss to quilt kits!) and your quilt sings "I'm unique!".

    Hugs!

  12. Fonthill is beautiful! The border fabric you chose worked a treat with your mix of fabrics for all those triangles.

  13. I’m guessing this is one where the photo doesn’t do the quilt full justice and it’s more “alive” in person.
