I'm still quilting...9 blocks quilted, 6 to go, 3 small ones and 3 large ones. I'll look for binding fabric this morning.
Tami at Thrift Shop Commando showed her Christmas pin collection. That prompted me to pull out my mother's pin, also called a brooch on ebay. I found it at 2 sites, one selling it for $54 and the other selling for $64.
I need to pin this onto something this year.
We had a big temperature drop late yesterday and it is going to be frigid today. I'm glad I got the grocery shopping done.
Nice that you are almost finished with that quilting!!
ReplyDeleteThe pin is just lovely--I usually pin a brooch to my Winter "Puffy coat" each year for the holidays...
Today it is 51 degrees here--gray and cloudy...i had thought it would be colder, but not yet...good luck finishing up with the quilting hugs, Julierose
temperature drop here too more like it should be for this time of year. I remember those style of brooches it seemed like all the mothers and grandmothers had one pinned to a coat or nice jacket. The quilt will get done eventually - today if you really want it done by the end of the month
ReplyDeleteI love your mother's Christmas tree pin. It reminds me so much of when I was a kid. One of my favorite things was seeing what kind of pin each woman would wear at family gatherings. Christmas trees, candy canes, little wreaths, ... Thanks for showing this today. Nice memories.
ReplyDeleteYou have made a lot of progress on the yellow and black quilt. Even if it's not done by midnight, it will be done soon and you can cross it off your list! Your mother's Christmas pin is so sweet! I think I have something you could pin it on. Look for some happy mail.
ReplyDelete1st comment here and want to say I love your energy and the wonderful quilts you make so quickly! I'm a quilter, too.
ReplyDeleteI have several Christmas tree pins inherited from my mother and MIL. To each one, I attached a loop of red or green silky ribbon and they hang on our Christmas tree as sparkling reminders of those lovely women. Of course, one is on my coat, too!
Hugs!
Your mom’s Christmas pin is beautiful, and a treasure from days gone by.
ReplyDeleteI can see hours of quilting going into your yellow, black ‘n white. Its going to be one amazing piece when complete.

Big storms last night and big temp drop over night here. I have several of my mother's brooches as well as a few I wore on my jackets when I worked at the law firms. I saw a quilted tree online somewhere and ended up drafting out my own version and pinning the sparkly pins onto it as part of our yearly Christmas decor. I posted about it here: https://quiltdivajulie.blogspot.com/2015/12/christmas-tree-quilt.html
ReplyDeleteI can remember my mom wearing a similar brooch like that. I wish they’d go back to wearing pins. They were always so pretty.
ReplyDeleteLove the pin! During the initial Covid lockdown (seems like forever ago) I went through my brooch collection and took time to look up the old ones. Always interesting things to learn. Quite a cold snap! I heard geese flying/honking way before sunrise (3:30 a.m.!) todya.
