I goofed............

This is the inspiration antique quilt that is the basis for my Sunday only project.  I wasn't paying attention or didn't analyze this closely enough when I started making the strip sets.

I was just zipping along making strips facing both directions.  However all of the strips in the inspiration quilt are the one on the left, either in that position or flipped end for end.

In this photo the top row is all of the correct strips.  The row on the bottom has a mix creating some flying geese type secitons.

So...do I stay true to the inspiration quilt or just do my own thing?

  1. Of course, do your own thing. The old quilt still was your inspiration.

  3. Always, always, do your own thing. That's what makes it uniquely yours and that picture is still the inspiration. It's your skill and your fabric that make a beautiful quilt, not staying bound to a pic of another quilt.

  4. Stay true. You liked the inspiration quilt for its design. If you do your own thing, you're making a different quilt.

  5. I agree about doing your own thing--whether that is how you've gone about it so far or reprising the original--just follow your heart, I say...
I have a lovely sunny day for my food shopping today; somehow I've always looked forward to what most people think of as a chore. I guess it's because I like to cook...hugs, Julierose

  6. do your own thing - you don't want to take all that out or just toss it and start over do you. you can turn strips this way and that and find something that works for you

  7. Do your own thing! You are still drawing inspiration from the original.

  8. Inspiration is not the same meaning as duplication...

  9. You always do your own thing, Why stop now? If you want to make a copy of the inspiration quilt, you can make another one. I'm sure you won't run out of fabric.

  12. I was going to say "do your own thing", but decided a better answer would be "do what makes you happy"! It will look great whatever you do.

  13. Inspiration is just that... a jumping-off point, an idea, a spark... not necessarily a "true to the idea" of a finish... So I say do the thing that feels like you and don't worry about matching the inspiration item.

  14. Bummer! Sometimes the simple blocks cause the most problems ! Who knew pinwheels can turn different directions ?!
I'm fairly new to your blog... but seems like you had your heart set on doing it like the inspiration quilt. It will look FABULOUS no matter what you decide...

  15. Well, I guess I am not the only one who made a goof lately. Neither choice is right or wrong. If you want the original design, make some mug rugs or placemats with the other. If you want to invent something new, you have the fabric for it.

  16. I guess the only answer to that question is another question - does it bother you that they are directionally different?
