Working with just the blocks I already had on the wall I changed to this layout which would be so much simpler to sew than the previous layout (see link below). I would play around more with the colors if I use this one.
In my first layout on this post I had all of the blocks staggered at the center of the neighboring blocks.
Kathy left this comment would it drive you crazy to have two different stagger point starts instead of just one in the middle?
In this layout I have 3 different stagger points (look at blocks in the top left corner as they step up 3 times) and I think it is more interesting than my original layout which is quite formal.
My son stopped by Tuesday morning and put a sharp blade on my mower and it pushes so much easier now. This was my Dad's battery operated mower and he had 2 blades so we could change out easily and my son will bring the other blade back sharpened to save for later.
While I was mowing I decided there were enough Peonies blooming to pick a small bouquet. The darkest ones are almost all past their prime and other light color ones are just starting to bloom.
Last night I pulled 2 heaping buckets of weeds and got my 2 wheel cart out and moved 4 bags of leaf mulch to the front flower bed. I have my work cut out for me today.

What about making a layout with 2 verticles and a horizontal making one block and then reversing them across the row. I hope you understand what I mean.
You have been busy, both with yard upkeeping and block pinning!!:000
Be careful and stay safe...hugs, Julierose
the first layout would be easier I think but the second layout is the one I like better.
Love the peonies.
Wow! I love the layout with the staggered start points. Yes, it could be very disorganized to sew together, or very easy because none of the seams would have to match. Worth it, in my eyes!!! I am definitely going to use this block pattern in a piece now, but probably size it up a bit. This design is fun!
Your peony photo with the dark wood background looks like a museum painting! You could try a layout with the lighter blocks on the top shading downwards.
I really like the staggered layout. There sure are a lot of options! My peonies should start blooming today; way behind usual.
Wanda, your peonies are just beautiful! Our already look spent because of the heavy rains we’ve had. Happy quilting!
It may take more brain cells, but I like the staggered verticals. And I agree that the newest one (shown above) is more interesting than the first. Good luck with the mulch - don't overdo it in any one work session!
I too love the staggered vertical layout. The combination of vertical and horizontal, didn’t seem to show the beauty of the ‘switch plates’, like the staggered vertical. And I know only you will create the best layout.
Peonies are so pretty ~ JJM
Be careful with
That yardwork. I like the 2nd layout too.your blocks are gorgeous
Agreeing with others on the second one. The first one seems jumbled. I made one of these last year, all in golds, oranges, hot colors. It was horizontal (10 x 6) with a 6" nine-patch to start every other layer. Not half, or a third but just enough so it didn't look like a brick wall. It was supposed to be a charity quilt but I've not parted with it yet... like it too much! I'm sure you will have another winner too!
The peonies look like a still life painting. Beautiful. The staggered blocks look like lighted windows of houses on a hillside.
Your photo of the peonies remind me of an oil painting. It's a beautiful bouquet. I'm enjoying all of your layouts for the fun blocks.
