Plants for porch pots...........

Every year I think I need to go the local nursery with a plan for my porch pots.  What I always end up doing is buying what appeals to me and then I just make it work.

I will do some planning today for the three large black pots and then find places for the ones that are left.  I didn't find the Coleus variety I wanted so I'll go back another day and look around.

  1. That’s exactly what happens to me as well!! Aren’t the colors in your box beautiful?

  2. It is kind of like fabric, you buy what appeals to you and make it work. Yesterday, a quilt store a little ways away from me had a huge sale. They had good fabric for $3 a yard. I bought a ton of 5 yd pieces for backing and 2 yd. pieces for borders. None of which I know what quilt it will work with, but tried to buy toned blenders. And I will make it work. Lovely plants!

  3. The color pallet of flowers look like one of your quilts! I need to get the marigolds I bought planted. I had a dream last night that I was doing yardwork and it started snowing. I mean the sun was shining and the weather was nice, but yet the snow was coming down like a blizzard!

  5. That’s as good an excuse as any….still looking for the right coleus! I think shopping for plants, fabric, and wrapping paper are all kind of similar. Maybe I should add in clothes too, because I am always thinking about whether I will be able to cut them up in the future and use them. (Thus, I stay away from those with unnatural fabrics…)

  7. I get the impatiens I want and then get sucked into all the pretty colors and go off the rails with additional purchases I really don't need. Happens every time.

  8. I do like the selection of plants you came home with, beautiful colour for your garden. Also you have such healthy looking hostas in your post yesterday - trying to catch up so excuse doubling up of comments!

  9. My hubby always said (he died Mar 4) that we are GRASS farmers! Cows eat GRASS! Guess what?? They eat flowers, too! Even rose bushes! One of our sons is now "in charge" of the land & he's willing to help me somehow keep the cows out of at least 1 area! YAY for sons!

  10. I had to visit three places before I found the coleus variety that we love. And it seems that no matter how much I plan, I always buy other plants that appeal to me more. When visiting Lynne in June I plan to let my instincts lead me to the fabrics I want to bring home - no serious plan involved (tried that too many times - better if I go with an open mind and buy what I love). Gorgeous colors in your flowers!!!

  13. I also buy what I like and then plan my plantings. My go to plants are geraniums and when I can find them Dusty Miller. I love the silver of the Dusty Miller and depending on the winter often get two years out of them. I recently planted an old laundry tub which I couldn't use in the laundry room with Geraniums, Dusty Miller, and Iberis also known as Candy Turft. I was worried about a late freeze but they survives. I planted some pots for the front porch but have to wait until siding work is done so right now they are lining the sidewalk. Have fun planting and I hope you can find your Coleus.
