I didn't sew any blocks together but instead kept changing the plain squares in several blocks. The lightest block is too light so those squares will come out. The one to the left, I keep trying that print but I think it is still too dark. It doesn't help that I have the darkest block next to the lightest block. Closeups below.
The too light block. I'll probably cut the same light fabric as is in the triangles for the 3 squares.
The only way I can get this too dark block to work is having more dark blocks. I need to make 8 more blocks so I'll try some more combinations.
The value change between the yellow and green triangles isn't crisp so this block is iffy whether it will stay in the quilt.
We got about 3-4" of snow early Sunday morning. More snow predicted tonight. It is so cold that the snow is light and fluffy. My snow plow guy brought my newspapers up to my porch before he plowed. It was nice to not have to walk out to the end of the driveway on the snow.
What a nice snowplow guy to pick up your papers and put them on your porch. While it doesn’t fit the project, I really like the too light block. I end up with mote orphans because I can’t let my favorites go, thinking I can make them work, lol.
ReplyDeleteI like the mixture of blocks but to me I like the darker blocks more than the light color :) I'm sure you will decide - your eye for color always wins out
ReplyDeleteLots of decisions on this one..I like all the blocks really..but getting them to play well together is the challenge i understand...

Hi Wanda, I love seeing your design process as always. Some of my favorite fabrics in your blocks! I'm working on a quilt along using all solid fabrics. I love quilts with solids but usually use prints so this is a fun challenge. We just switched to online only for our newspaper and we enjoy it! No more going out in the cold for the paper and it is so much cheaper too!
ReplyDeleteThe blocks are really pretty and I am sure you will figure out an excellent arrangement. I got 4" of light fluffy snow yesterday. My neighbor, Becky, texted me and said she would come over and help me shovel my driveway. We got mine done so we went and did her driveway. Her driveway is half the size of mine. Then we decided we would go and shovel Dave's driveway since he tore his ACL and shouldn't be out plowing snow even with his snow blower. An hour and a half later we called it a day but not before Becky tried out my shovel and decided she needed a new one. When we traded shovels - I plowed the snow and she toss the snow - I could not believe how heavy her shovel was! It had a thick wooden handle and then a metal scoop part. No wonder she was grunting!
ReplyDeleteShe has decided she needs a new snow shovel.
You have a snow plow guy?? I have never had one of those in my life !! I am going to try your pattern. Did the HSTs start out 2.5? 3.5?
ReplyDeleteLovely block
More snow here today. Love how you document the block decisions. I think sometimes that the mental part of deciding is exhausting and the sewing is the easiest, or more relaxing.
ReplyDeleteI always love to read your analysis of your work.
ReplyDeleteEach block is so ‘technical’ unique. I feel a contemporary 2022 creation, in the works

The too-light block does stick out, but the balance of the others appears okay to me....but I know that if it doesn't look right to you it won't feel right at all. I hope your solution comes without having to make too many extra spare parts.
ReplyDeleteLove your blocks.you have such an eye for these things. I love them all and can't wait to see the finish
