Playing at the design wall..........

This is the new fabric that I think goes very well with the star blocks.  Simplest solution would be to use it for sashing and be done.

When I was trying ideas last year I was using a single row of squares as sashing.  Now I'm trying double rows.  This was my first idea.  Ok but a little chunky.

I changed the center to triangles instead of squares.

Then I switched the direction of the triangles to point out instead of in (as in photo above).  I only changed triangle in the center area, the ones out at the ends of the rows are going the wrong way.

Next I took away one set of triangles all around to make a smaller motif.

In outdoor doings, I mowed the shady back yard.  The grass in the front yard is half brown and crispy with the lack of rain so it didn't need mowing.  Work is going to start on my front flower beds next week so I went out to dig out the peonies which are the only thing left to save.  The ground is rock hard in front.  The ground in the back garden is so easy to dig.  This is the wrong time to move peonies so they may not survive but I at least was going to give them a chance.

The first tomato is small...but it is red.  It needs a few more days to finish ripening and I decided not to give the squirrels a chance to see it.  My little neighbor girl was outside too and I showed her one that was almost ripe on her plant.  She picked hers too and took it inside to the windowsill.  This is the earliest I have ever had a ripe tomato.  I looked back in my photos and found that in 2019 I had my first tomatoes on June 22.  Most years it is the first week of July.

  1. Things always look so different in person so I am not sure how well that fabric goes with the blocks. The pink kind of sticks out in the photo. I agree that the extra piecing in the sashing kind of competes with the blocks. I think the sashing in the second or third picture looks the best. It going to be a beautiful quilt top!

  3. As always, it will be interesting to see what you decide to do, Wanda.

  4. After looking at all of them enlarged, the second one would get my vote. Even when I initially saw the 3 layouts, the second one was the most pleasing to my eye. Yesterday, around 6:00 o'clock, I turned off the air and opened the doors and the window in our bedroom. It was wonderful to breathe in some fresh air, and it looks as though today will be another day of relief from the higher temperatures we've been having. Enjoy that tomato when it's ripe enough to eat.

  5. I like the additional triangles- the smaller motif. Love the fabric. Have to water a lot as not much rain, but the temps are in the 70s so that is great.

  6. I also like that 2nd one; you have quite a few options there...so pretty...

Talk about "Early Girl" tomato!!:)) Nice. I used to grow those a lot...those and cherry tomatoes for salads...

We have a Bee Man here to rid us of wasps...all in our chimney area--they decided to venture into our back deck so we decided to try to control them more...They are the stinging kind--not good!! So I am holed up inside during spraying...
    Yikes...hugs, Julierose

  7. I'd go with #4, maybe #3. Something about the triangles pointing out goes wiht the stars better for me. And the larger version might be too much competition with the stars? Then again, the stars do seem to stand up to the larger version.

Even though we got a pop up shower of rain last Thursday, it's already back to too dry to do a good weeding job, so I'm pulling the bindweed off plants and pulling out as much grass as I can, at least the seed heads have to go. I can't haul enough water to let soak in to dig stuff out by the roots. As long as no one drives by too slow or gets too close, it doesn't look *too* bad from the road. Peonies are tough, as long as the don't dry out, they should be ok. They might sulk for a year or two though.

  8. What size are your HST blocks? I like the additions in the sashing (especially the less fussy versions).

  9. I love the third design down. Fourth one comes in second place for me. You didn’t ask for a vote but it looks like we are all voting for our favorites. My favorite (#3) is awesome on my desktop screen, the center design gives this piece more personality.

  10. Hard to tell for sure, but I think I like photo # 4 with the points going outward, forming a square kindof. Whatever, it'll be lovely when you get finished with it.

  11. Sure I have a favorite but it doesn't matter, you will choose and the quilt will be beautiful! I like the fabric you will be using, tone on tone sashings don't appeal to me, except maybe in a sampler quilt, but the floral is interesting. Our gardens are usually in synch but somehow your tomatoes raced ahead. Enjoy!

  13. The points facing out is a winner, I love the effect with those HSTs in the sashing.
