Finished quilt.............

The Sunshine and Shadow quilt made with triangles of all Kaffe Fassett fabric, 385 different fabrics starting with #01 is finished.  I pieced most of the top in 2010 and added one more row in length in 2016, and put the border on in 2020.  It measured 77" x 99" when the top was completed and 73.5" x 98.5" after quilting.

The backing is Kaffe's #100 Persian Vase which is out of print and is now listed for over $45 for a half yard on ebay and etsy.  I have close to 6 yards of it on the back, $270+.  Really I think almost every fabric in the quilt is an out of print Kaffe.

I had a couple more photos I didn't post yet from my Wednesday landscaping event.  This is how they emptied the dirt out of the truck.  I thought they were going to dump in on my driveway and get it from there.

I opened the front door and snapped this photo of the dirt being taken around the side of my house.  My grass is flattened from the trucks, Bobcat and tractor running over it multiple times.  We got an inch of rain from Wednesday through 8:30 a.m. Thursday and another tenth of an inch yesterday so the grass is recovering a little.  More rain predicted but spotty coverage.

  3. WOW--what a lovely quilt finish--I really like that striped border fabric--it just mellows out all the triangles...and that close quilting adds so much--I think this is such a pretty effect. hugs, Julierose

  5. was this a landscaping company that you had do the work? I have so many areas I would like redone but I have such a big place it would be too pricey I imagine to hire someone. The quilt is really nice - any idea why you put it aside so long to finish? I have a couple small starts on projects and wonder if I will ever pull them back out.

  7. I like how they got the dirt off the truck. The crew must have their own, since it wasn't a "dump and run" for the truck. It seems no matter how good you clean up the dirt, the driveway is stained for a while. I hope you get a bit more rain, so it all can get settled in.

The quilt is gorgeous, and it's fun to see how many squares look like 1 fabric at first glance are are really 4 fabrics. I don't think I've ever seen that backing fabric, but but then KF fabrics were out long before I became aware of them.

  8. Checking the radar, it looks like the forecasted rain is going to pass us by again. And temps near 90 for the next 4 days. Ugh.

  9. Yeah for the finish of another Kaffe beauty. The stripe border looks great. I marvel at the amount of Kaffe fabric you must have. I have a reasonable stash of Kaffe but most everything is 1 yard or less. Don't think I've ever bought 6 yards of anything.

  13. Wow! You have really been busy, and productive, too! I love this quilt. It's like an anthology of those so beautiful Kaffe fabrics. And how perfectly they all play together! You did a big lot of landscaping, too. What a relief to get all the tired crowded ones out and a new beginning! I love seeing what you are doing inside and out. You, as always, insp9re me. Thank you.

  15. Another beautiful quilt! That sure is a big piece of equipment to use at a residence. As long as it didn't leave any ruts you should be ok.

  17. This quilt is stunning! I also love the straight line quilting. Aren't channel locks wonderful? The quilt gives me an idea for a quilt like this from hand dyed scraps arranged in color groups but not matching fabrics. That might be fun.
