Now I'm trying to decide on the backing. The Martha Negley large floral piece is long enough for part of the back. Both other pieces are only 2 yards each and I need 84". I need a piece 27.5" wide so I would have leftover that I could piece to fill in the needed 12". Indecision........
I was trying to find a Brandon Mably fabric yesterday (part of the Kaffe collective) and the shelves were such a mess. I decided to sort it by color rather than pattern. The pile on the left on the second shelf up is the Liberty fabric that Kaffe did the colorations for a few years ago. All of the rest on the bottom 2 shelves is Brandon fabric. I was surprised how much red there is. I found some fabrics I definitely want to work with.
I love this cool version of the 16 patch pattern...and the inserted strips...nice work hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteI also love the strips inserted into the quilt top. Your shelves are a carnival of color. Always so productive. Take care.
ReplyDeleteYou have some of my favorite colors in this project.
ReplyDeleteBlue/s - my favourite colour - & I had to zoom in so I could drool looking at all those other colours :)
ReplyDeleteQuilt top looks great. Love the insert. Fabric on a shelf is terrific collaboration of colors.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to fondle your fabrics as you sort by color -- the shelves look GREAT! Lovely quilt top finish - good luck designing the back.
ReplyDeleteOh Wanda, you made my Sunday, this cool blue is definitely one of my favorites you have designed. The inserts give it a nice polished finish.
ReplyDeleteI love blue too much, much of my decor in my house is blue and most ALL my clothes are in blue. I just feel better in and around blue.
My husband had a burgundy, purple, brownish red work shirt he loved. (a ugly solid color) And that color affected me so much I couldn't even iron it for him, so I gave it to good will when he wasn't looking. 😊 Is there any color you absolutely will not work with ? And does color affect your emotions ?
Arranging your fabrics by color has to be helpful when you have a color in mind to add to your design ~ so neat and tidy .

I'm envious of your stash... all those gorgeous KFC designs that are out of print. I'd love to see a lot of those come back but would probably have a hard limiting what I'd request.
ReplyDeleteI love this blue and green 16-patch. It's very soothing and quiet, where the new red one is vibrant and exciting!

I plan to eventually make a 16 patch quilt using your instructions. Love the color/fabric choices in this blue one. The three backing fabrics you pulled are, of course, beautiful. Honestly, I would not use that one with the horses, etc on the back. That is such an interesting print. , I would save it for the front of a quilt, to use in the piecework,
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Pinning!

Love the inserted strips. They add just a bit of punch without being too much. I think the large floral would look great on the back. Your collection of fabric is pure YUM!
ReplyDeleteI don't think the pieced seams will show very much on your patterned backing fabric. The inserted strip is most effective. Impressed as usual with your lovely work.
ReplyDeleteI saw this on IG and thought my phone was broken. "What?, Wanda is sewing with warm colors now." Thanks for explaining! For some reason I looked at the sidebar and Easy Pieces jumped out, more blue and green! My fav combo. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteI love your 16 patch quilt...I also love Kaffe Facett and Brandon Marley fabrics. Their use of color is to 'dye' for!
ReplyDeleteI have several squares (shoe boxes full) of different sizes. I should get them all out and start sewing them together. They aren't doing anyone any good in those boxes!
Perfect - love this top finish!
