This quilt top was waiting for me to make a decision on borders. I almost finished without borders but I'm glad I reconsidered them again. It is 35" x 42.25".
I also sewed and pressed the backing seam and got the backing and batting loaded on the longarm. The top is just laying there, not stitched on yet.
A friend gave me a gift certificate so I could choose my own Amaryllis bulb. They also had a stake so I ordered that too. I had the grapevine basket from an amaryllis many years ago so I was glad to use it again.
Yesterday I noticed there are 2 buds peeking out in addition to the 2 leaves in the center so I should have some January blooms in my winter indoor garden.
I see you got right to finishing the African colorwash. I know you don't usually add borders to the colorwash quilts, but in this case, the borders certainly add a finishing touch. Pat
About that new quilt top - WOW WOW WOW - the border really made a huge difference. So gorgeous. (and the one laid out on the longarm is pretty great, too)
I like those borders, too, and can't wait to see your amaryllis in bloom! You will have quite a floral display if they and the cacti are blooming at once!
Oh, yes- the border is terrific. It is just wonderful. Isn't it hard to believe buds can come out of something so dead looking and have so much promise?
Your African quilt top stole the show today ! And for good reason, it has charisma like none other ! and now onto your onion rings.
Your plants sure put on a show in themselves, they say you can talk to your plants, I don't think you have time to talk to them with all your designing, sewing, quilting, house work, baking and etc. etc. etc. You are one amazing lady to say the least.
Love the bold choice you made for the African quilt! You sure are keeping busy. The onion ring quilt is gorgeous! How fun that is to have another amaryllis. The stake is a great idea and something you can keep and use year to year.
Your quilt looks like the "Heart of Africa" with the borders...amazing work!

ReplyDeleteThe border fabric is perfect, and the shot of the quilt has me thinking of the book and film Out of Africa - which is my favourite film!
