The other Winding Ways quilt top.............

The friend who cut the hand dyed fabrics for me with her die cutter also cut batik fabrics.  There were enough pieces to do 2 quilt tops but I just made one and a friend took the others.   I made this top in 2011 and a friend bought it from me to finish for her daughter.

This is my preferred pattern to get the circular look.  I have made more than these 3 but the others were before digital cameras and I don't think I have a photo of them.  These are all strip pieced Kaleidoscope quilts made before 2010.  Click on the photo for a closer look.  The one in the center is all floral fabrics.

My Sedums have turned a really deep rosy red.  They don't always get to that stage before the first frost.

  1. I've not done any curved piecing before but after watching many video's I feel like I could do the basics. The Winding Ways blocks look like extra curves are involved! I would like to make a small Kaleidoscope quilt one day, when I can find the time. Your front garden is looking very pretty :)

  2. Beautiful Kaleidoscope quilts you've displayed here..love the all flowery one especially...
We had quite a wind and rain storm overnight. 0.32 inches of rain--but that is better than nothing...Many leaves down with the winds...
now it looks like Fall here..

  4. The sedum is so beautiful. What a pop of color! I had gotten a start of sedum, but the deer ate it.

  5. The optical illusion of circles in kaleidoscope drew me in, too. I made several years ago and another set more recently. Winding Ways is always beautiful and yours glow with your fabric choices. Lucky you to have a friend with a die cutter.

  6. I love the look of the Winding Ways quilt, but all that curved piecing would drive me crazy. The deer have eaten all my sedum blooms. I get tired of constantly having to spray deer repellent, so the sedums and chrysanthemums never get to bloom. I've given away a lot of them.

  8. I've been wanting to make a kaleidoscope quilt and I would certainly make the one with all the straight seams! But the one with the curved seams is spectacular!

I saw one made from Kaffe's woven stripes and it's pretty amazing. I bought a bunch of stripes a couple years ago and have had this on my list of possibilities for some of those.

    These are all gorgeous!

  9. Winding Ways... Each one of these beauties is spectacular ! We all know what it takes to stitch curves like this, and for them to turn out so perfect is what makes these quilts so spectacular . They are all 'Purple Ribbon' class pieces.

  10. Oh the winding ways with the florals is so beautiful. I'm a bit nervous about curved piecing - unless I do it by hand then I'm more confident - I'd never finish a quilt that way!
