I showed this quilt a few weeks back and mentioned all it needed was about 1/4 of the binding to be hand sewn down after 12 years.......of waiting patiently. Last night it got its last stitch. It is 43" square from point to point.
This one is made of the earliest Hoffman batiks like another that I made last year. Purple, gray, pink and turquoise were in most of the early ones.
There were a few gray-greens in the early ones too. I love this little quilt and the binding is not the best job I ever did on a quilt but it was a tricky miter in miter out binding so I can live with it.
Go here to see the large quilt I finished with the same edge (scroll down to second photo). I have learned my lesson, I don't need to ever finish the edge of another one like this.
I was in such a hurry to take this photo and get to the eating part that the photo is a little fuzzy, mainly because of low light in that area of the counter. I thought I had gotten a little too much chocolate in my bowl but then I remembered there is no such thing as too much chocolate.

Love the colors in the little quilt and love that it is DONE! Yay! It has been a while since I had a hot fudge sundae- I try to stay away from them because they make me crave for more.
ReplyDeleteI love those older batiks..I think they had much more subtle colorways and patterns than today's do...I often find myself wishing for "older" fabrics that I once owned.
ReplyDeleteNice little quilt...so pretty...
Hugs, Julierose
Oooh Wanda, one of my favorite "color combinations" - peppermint ice cream with hot fudge sauce! And you're right, never too much chocolate! Fun looking at that nice collection of Hoffman batiks, lots of favorites in there!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on getting the quilt finished! Peppermint ice cream with hot fudge? Oh my goodness, that had to be wonderful! And you are right - no such thing as too much chocolate, especially hot fudge!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely piece and so fantatic you took the time for the perfect edge finishing! Yup, never too much chocolate but I’m now on a “add malt powder’ to my ice cream treats!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy seeing the Bricks quilt and made me wonder how you auditioned it before sewing together because of it's size. I just did a color wash quilt 90x90 with squares. Did one quarter of it at a time. With diagonals a bit harder. Maybe making the rows horizontal during the process ?
ReplyDeleteYour little finish for September is darling!! So much to take in with the edging, corners and the fabrics. Hanging on a wall would be entertainment for me, just like the African quilt hanging on my wall.
Will always enjoy your work.
What a pretty quilt — and good grief, all those mitered corners! Mo wonder it took "a while" to finish. I have fond memories of the early Hoffman batiks... the colors and gradations had a richness and subtlety that's hard to find now.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, there's no such thing as too much chocolate!!
I love your quilt. It is a kind of gradient, which are my very favorite quilts. It's hard (but fun!) to choose fabrics and lay them out to achieve that effect. When I first started quilting I bought a lot of batiks and pretty much developed batik-burnout. Now I am starting to love them again!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand not wanting to do that binding again but aren't you glad you did one? It's super cool looking!
