Almost there..........

I sewed all of the rest of the rectangle blocks and played with the layout for about 2 hours.  I moved the bottom daisy block down one row since I had added a row of blocks to the left and 2 rows at the bottom.  It needed moving for balance.  Now I wondered if I should put in 5 daisy blocks instead of 3 since 3 was so perfect in the smaller size.  Do they look kind of lonely now?  I need to decide on the center circles for the daisy blocks, whether they should all be the same or 3 different fabrics.  I really want to vacuum that room but it would take almost 100 pins to pin the blocks to the design wall so I'm stuck until I sew some rows together.

I switched to a different project with all of that indecision.  I sewed the parts for 9" churn dash blocks.  I was using 10" squares and didn't have enough fabric left to cut center squares.

I remembered I had a bag of 3 1/2" Kaffe fabric squares in the basement.

This was the best squares in the group.  There weren't a lot of choices since there were 12 alike of a lot of the fabrics.

I decided to go ahead and sew them.  This will be one of those evening sewing projects that I work on now and then and eventually I'll have a plan.

  1. I like the rectangles' set up; and those churn dashes are really lovely..a riot of colors..with the darker outlining--just so pretty..

  2. Looks perfect! It's a lovely quilt and was a nice idea to add the larger blocks.
You have been busy in the garden and enjoy the outdoor pictures you send.

  3. Your churn dash blocks are going to be awesome with all those KF fabrics. I'm not sure about 3 v 5 daisies in the rectangle top - would need to test it and see (but I'm leaning to three being enough to break things up without overpowering the layout).

  4. I like the quilt the way it is. The daisy blocks just add such a spark to the quilt.

  5. I like the circles exactly as you have them, with circles all the same. I really like the way this has turned out. Might even be an inspiration for another pattern to be added to the every growing list!

  6. I think 5 would be better than three but it still looks great the way it is, too

  7. Love the churn dash blocks. Can you share the cutting to get the parts for the 9" churn dash from 10" squares?
Thanks so much, love your blog.

  8. What a wonderful colorful "exuberant" post today. I'm just going to wait and see what YOU decide to do, whether to add two more daisy blocks or not to your rectangles.

I really like the 'churn dash' block pattern.

  9. I think if you changed places with the bottom brownish burst block and the middle darker burst block, the darker block would pull the eye down more and the rectangles would be fine.
    Lovely churn dashes.

  10. That daisy quilt really speaks to me! The churn dash blocks are spectacular. I'm really undecided about a new project. Maybe I just need to start making blocks and figure it out later.

  12. I would go with 5 daisy blocks as well...and probably keep all the centers the same....there is already such a wonderful riot of color to please the eye!
