I decided to use the already prepared circles for the centers of the daisies. I sewed them on by machine with invisible thread and a narrow zig zag. Since this will be a throw quilt I didn't see the need for hand applique on the circles. After sewing on the circles I finished sewing the quilt top together. It is 48" x 65.5". I briefly considered adding a border but then remembered I want to be making smaller quilts.....I seem to end up with larger ones most of the time.
I had been watching for the Asiatic Lily to bloom. About 5 years ago I bought 6 of them for $1 each at the end of the season. I'm down to only one now. I had to cut some volunteer trees to be able to see the blooms.
It is such a beautiful shade of yellow.
Farther along in the back garden is an area of colorful plants. The Coralbell doesn't look very healthy. Maybe I should consider planting the one I have in a large planter in there instead.
I love this Hosta. I think it is a Gold Standard.
I sewed some more pairs of 2" strips and also made a few more blocks for the other current quilt top.
Your prepared circles were meant to be on the daisies. Like what the daisies did to the rectangle quilt and yet the rectangles alone would have made a wonderful quilt.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea to include the three blocks and machine applique is better for a quilt intended for intensive use.
ReplyDeleteI really like the daisies in this quilt it really is quite unique!
ReplyDeleteI have 2 Lily plants. The orange one started blooming 2 days ago; the other one had no chance as the buds got eaten a few weeks back :( We've had rain so not much watering needed. Do you ever feed your garden plants? They always look healthy. Half of mine are in tubs & wall planters & I use liquid food about once a week. And while I remember, the font size used today is perfect for my eyes - no need for me to enlarge the page :)
ReplyDeleteWhat name did you give this quilt top? I love it. Do you think it would look good in Aussie fabric, I've been collecting for awhile?
ReplyDeleteWandaful as always! Love your plants too. And I can't help noticing the rocks along the border of your flower bed. I am busy painting rocks at the moment.
ReplyDeleteThat quilt is so striking! Adding the daisy blocks made it really special.
ReplyDeleteReally like the quilt top. I can see one of those in my future.....someday. I'm the same, I tend to make large quilts.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful finished quilt top, Wanda!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt, well done!
ReplyDeleteLove the finished quilt top - good call on the circles and how you attached them. And hooray for stopping before you added the border!
ReplyDeleteI find myself steering away from borders unless they're absolutely necessary, this one certainly doesn't need one. I've just noticed how the centre circle in the top Daisy really makes the pink 'petals' stand out more.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt looks fantastic. Great use of those circles. That yellow lily is such a striking color.
ReplyDeleteAnother terrific design. The circles work just fine on the daisy blocks--the consistency of the circles (that they don't use the daisy fabrics) adds a bit of visual intrigue.
