Here is the view as I was approaching the design wall to photograph the Blooming 9 Patch quilt top. I don't think the color is perfect but is close. It ended up 88.5" x 107". Even though it is huge, on a queen bed that has a 15" deep mattress it wouldn't be large enough.
The design wall is only 84" tall and I'm not tall enough to get the quilt all the way to the top so there is about 12" laying on the floor. But the good news is that it is all sewn together. Click on the photo for a closer view of the fabrics.
I sewed the binding and hanging sleeve on downtown and the hand stitching is started. I will have my monthly recap tomorrow. I'm thinking maybe next month I should hurry up and have all of the finishes in the first 10 days instead trying to meet this self imposed deadline at the end of the month.
Stunning as it is in size and workmanship, it hasn't been one of my favorites UNTIL today's photo with the view of the final blackened border. That transformed it for me. Thanks!!!
it looks great - I know what you mean though about not large enough for a queen - when I do the queen sizes I always have to have them at least 100 inches in width so they will hang over the sides good. I'm not sure what size would be for a full size bed with a deep mattress and high bed frame but I bet it would work for one like that
I added a 6" (I think) border of the last fabric to make mine fit a queen. Now we have it turned sideways to fit our king. It doesn't go all the way to the top of the mattress, but I don't like a lot turned down when I sleep, anyway. The pillows cover the edge. Now to make some pretty shams to match ...
Wanda, the blooming 9 patch is on my list of quilts to make so I absolutely adore yours and am so impresssed with how quickly it came to fruition. You astound me with your color-sense and craftsmanship.
Love the blooming nine patch. We have a queen sized bed and the lat quilt I did for it was 95x85. And it’s perfect.your quilt would sit sidesway. My husband doesn’t like too much overhang at the end of the bed, he is afraid of tripping over it.
Stunning finish on Blooming 9-Patch quilt ;)) A lovely piece of work ~ ~ ~ ~ waves from Julierose :)))
ReplyDeleteWOW @ Blooming Patch - beautiful finish - how on earth did you manage to get it up on your wall?
