Another nice day..........

It feels so good to have the air conditioning turned off and the windows open.  I even turned on the iron so I could finish sewing the last 2 postage stamp blocks.  It is a challenge to press these with all of those seams.
I had a pile of pieces for the 4" bow tie blocks laying on my sewing cabinet so I got 16 of them sewn too.

When my friends were here last time another treasure I found was a pile of 2" strips of black and white prints.  I pulled out the ones that would work best and made some more zipper blocks.  Here are the first 4.

I kept sewing and got 5 more done.  I will mix them in with the other blocks some time this week.

I also cut more squares for the postage stamp blocks.  The majority of these are Australian fabrics.

Today is the last day in the 80s, tomorrow in the 90s and humid again.  Supposedly that will only last 1 day and then 2 nice days again before a long hot spell comes back.  I haven't kept up with digging out the the 2 vines in the front garden so it is still an overgrown mess.  I planted zinnia seeds along the front 2 feet that I had already dug up and I see they are coming up.

  1. I'm enjoying watching all those tiny squares transforming into postage stamp blocks. Your version is so colourful and once again inspires me to try something new! I've been given some solid fat quarters so I'll have to see if they are the right colour for the backgrounds, but they are not as bright as yours. I've always thought how neat your photo's are - do you use a tripod when doing the blocks?
I had to verify I wasn't a robot by clicking squares with cars inside - it's been a long long time since I had to do anything like that.

  2. You have several project going on right now. The postage stamp blocks are coming along and I really like the black and white zipper blocks. Digging around - you never know what you might find! I need to clean up my fabric storage room. It is a mess right now. If I clean it up I might find some treasures! LOL!!

  4. Lots of beautiful blocks being made. Weather here is pleasant, windows open. Sounds like that will change tomorrow. I just love waking up hearing the birds singing. Makes it hard to go downstairs to use the long arm.

  5. once again I have given up on the flowers gone wild and the vines - it is just too hot and I will again wait until fall when some will get done but not all - it is a never ending cycle and eventually when I am too old to handle it I will need to take a mower to it to keep things cut back from the house!
Love those black patch blocks - they do look like zippers like you say

  6. I chose my 24 solids yesterday (I'll make two blocks from each of them). I'll cut the tiny squares one color at a time as I'm ready to work on them. I've started cutting tiny squares from other fabric scraps that are currently on the cutting table as WIPs. (I also ordered the wool pressing pad).

  7. Your postage piece is really coming together so beautifully...I began cutting squares last evening...I will need to cut all the solids as i don't have any that size on hand..so perhaps one block at a time...love working with squares and rectangles.
A semi-cool day here--but I can feel that humidity ramping up once more...so AC is on... hugs, Julierose

  9. We’ve had a long hot humid spell. After a 4” rainfall (!) yesterday it was finally cooler this morning and I have much to do in the garden. Unfortunately, having a dog adventure instead. I’m at the vet waiting to see if they can retrieve a peach pit from his stomach. Argh. Hopefully endoscopically, otherwise it will be surgically. Fingers crossed.

  10. It's been hot and humid here too. It is hard to get motivated to do anything. I plan to make the postage stamp quilt too. It looks like you are using actual squares instead of strip piecing. Are you making them by rows or by growing four patches or some other method?

  11. I really like the solid and print postage stamp blocks but I am definitely not going to work with small squares even though I like yours with all different prints very much. I don't do well anymore with small pieces. I like the black and white print zipper blocks too. I think I will try some of my black and color fabric with solids for my Framed 9 patch blocks.

  13. I’ve never seen the zipper block before. It’s really great looking with the black-and-white, something I could do with my strips.
