The friend I have been cutting quilt pieces for came over yesterday morning. She used my design walls while I finished the cutting for the first of three quilts.
The sun was behind clouds and there was a nice breeze so I got the lawn mowed in two sessions in the tropical humidity. We have rain and more heat predicted so I had to get it done.
Last night I sewed more pinwheels from the box of triangle squares and then had to stop and wind bobbins.
On Sunday afternoon I dug out the last of the ditch lilies that never bloomed in this shady area and moved one more hosta to their spot. I neatened up the rock edging. I live on a street where there are no cross streets for 3 blocks so kids want to cut across our backyards to get from one street to another. I can't stop them so I made the path through a little wider. They had already broken off some of the Husker Red Penstemon plants that I put there earlier in the spring. It has been a few years since there were kids coming through so I wasn't expecting this when I did the planting.
Those are some fun pinwheel blocks! The tropical humidity - oh, I don't like it at all. There was a bit of a breeze last night about 7:30 but again it was too wet to mow.
ReplyDeletesorry for the problems with the kids coming through the backyards - I can understand it but it does give everyone with plants problems. Luckily here in the country I have not had that happen often - I did have to put a stop to it once years ago though when one kid wanted to use part of our back woods area and turning around close to the garden area for his 4 wheeler - I'm afraid I chased him down and told him not on my land! and he was good about it and never came back but did tell me he didn't know it belong to us - he was right next to the garden when he said it LOL - which I nicely pointed out to him - he was a little sheepish about it - must have been 15 years old or so at the time.
ReplyDeletePretty pinwheels, they always liven up a quilt. We have critters coming through our yard all the time either stepping on the plants or eating them. No kids here. Smart to make your path wider.
ReplyDeleteThe pinwheels look great. I try to keep a bunch of bobbins ready so I don't have to stop sewing to wind them. But on a busy sewing day, sometimes I run out.
ReplyDeleteHad to laugh about your reference to kids cutting through the yard. I had a home horticulture instructor years ago who told about working as a teen at a nursery. He said if it was a young couple he could point them to one area for hedge plants. If it was an older couple - well, they wanted something with thorns to keep the kids out!
ReplyDeleteLove the pinwheels, so much fun. Great story about the thorns--Hahahaha!
ReplyDeleteThose pinwheels look fabulous - love all those bright, happy colours! So far our summer has been very, very mild - we've had no days of high heat and humidity so far.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many beautiful pinwheels there. I look forward to seeing more of how they come together. --Andrea
ReplyDeleteHow civilized to make the path wider for cutters-through!

can`t beat a pin wheel one of my favourite blocks. Is it a right of way through your back here that is the only way we would walk through someone`s garden if it is a public footpth
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of kids cutting through over here in New Zealand - nor when we were growing up in England, is this something that happens often in the States?
