I pressed the top last night so it is officially finished. It is about 62" x 88.5". It doesn't lay quite as flat as most of my quilt tops. That is due to trying to match the points as I sewed the blocks together with lots of stretching and easing. If you match the points at the center when sewing these blocks it is hard to get the edges to match too. Trimming the blocks would have only made it worse for matching. The first quilt I made was before the ruler came out and it matched better. Here is the post that shows the book and the ruler which is laying on the book.
I was happy to see the Dianthus re-seeded from last year. Creeping Charlie is everywhere and as much as I don't like it, it is very pretty next to the Dianthus.
Here are some more plants down behind the lilies.
Another variety of Cranesbill is blooming.
There are always a few blooms on one branch of the Viburnum bush.
More rain is predicted for later today and most of the day tomorrow. I dug up some volunteer Red Penstemon plants and planted them in the back garden. I also moved one Hosta back there. The rain should help them get a good start.
Flat or not, matched or not, the purple is wonderful. It does make my eyes crazy so I just don't focus too long:) I think it is great!
ReplyDeleteThe purple quilt finished great! Once it is quilted, the surface will be fine. Do you mean the ruler made it harder for the quilt to sew together matching and flat? My tree peonies, the magenta ones, opened yesterday when it was hot.
ReplyDeletealways nice to have flowers reseed themselves. I have marigolds that came back from seed and I think some zinnia's are growing also, I will let them grow right now I am not sure if that is what is growing but I think so.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that the version pre-ruler laid flatter. I have the ruler but decided not to go that route with that project after trying a couple of test blocks.
ReplyDeleteAs I've commented before, purple always catches my eye because my husband loves it. I try not to buy a lot of rulers but this quilt is so interesting. I did a quick google search and it's even available at Walmart! Do they not carry anything? Ha! Great finish. I can't wait to see how you quilt it.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt. The purples are fabulous. I'm about to try one of these wonky quilts. We'll see how it goes--thanks for the warning about them not lying flat :)
ReplyDeleteYour Purple Top looks perfect on my screen... I wish we had some of your warm weather... snow was down as low in our foot hills first part of the week. The weather kids tell us it is to hit 60 by the weekend. When we have had temps hit 90 only a few weeks ago. So our spring time plants are struggling, with these crazy weather patterns. Nice to see yours in full bloom.
ReplyDeleteYour Strawberry for Farm Girl Vintage, looks luscious. Your star blocks are magnificent. I can see the hours you put into each one of them. Each one is a mini quilt in itself.

The purple quilt looks great in the picture. I am sure it will quilt up nicely.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind making this one to use up some of my KF fabric cuts but I would be making without the ruler, I'll hunt out the Karla Alexander book from off my shelves. I love that you have used so many purples in here.
ReplyDeleteThe purple quilt is incredible! What fun it is to look at and follow the movement of the curves. Your garden must be an absolute delight to walk around - so many fabulous flowers.
ReplyDeleteyour purple quilt looks amazing love the wavy effect it has. Garden looking good too. Not sure what the ruler is could not see it properly on the older blog
ReplyDeleteThat purple top looks beautiful and very flat to me, but I'm sure I can't see all the "problems" which are bothering you! I hope you'll be able to live with whatever faults it has, though, because in my opinion it's going to make a great quilt. Good luck..
ReplyDeleteA very pretty quilt.
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me that your weather seems to reflect ours - and you are thousands of miles away! I know it is going to rain for a while longer - because my peonies are about to flower - which is very sad because they are so pretty and the rain spoils the blooms.
Then again I've never had volunteer penstemons, so probably not quite as warm as you get in the summer.
I love seeing your plants as much as the quilts, many thanks.
