Backing chosen...........

A friend came over yesterday to bake a rhubarb/strawberry pie in my oven.  Yes, she left 2 pieces for me......yummy!!!  While it baked we went down to the basement to look for a backing for my purple quilt top (By the way for those who didn't catch the link in yesterday's post, here is the link for the book with the pattern and a photo of the ruler laying on the book).  We went through my stack of purples first and found a couple that could work.  Then we went to the big boxes of large yardage for backings.  There were 2 that had purple in them and I think this was the best one we found.  Now I just need some energy and enthusiasm to finish it.  Yesterday was a gloomy rainy day and I really didn't do much of anything.
Here are some more photos from the back garden a couple days ago.  I bought 2 hanging pots of wave petunias for a spot of bright color out there.  They have started to relax and hang over the edge since this photo.

This is an area where I planted about 20 hostas that I had in pots last year.  I added the 2 in the top left from my sister-in-law a few days ago.  I have added one more since I took this photo.  By the end of summer the area should be filled out.  I need to get some pavers and lay a path between them while they are small.

  1. Some days we just need rest time. Gloomy days are good days to just rest.

  2. I find it nerve racking to looking for backing. Yesterday, I continued searching for backing for a quilt that has embroidered butterflies on the front, and had a hard time figuring out to piece appropriate fabrics. Then I worked trying to find fabric for the stalled kaleidoscope and conceded that I have to make new blocks because I can't find fabric to make the other blocks bloom. Good thing it was chilly yesterday and the only sweating was mental.

  3. I can't imagine a day when you didn't do much of anything! You are one of the most productive women I've come to "know". You inspire me every day!!!

  4. nice to get the rewards of someone else's baking - the pie and the smell all over the house - baking pie has such a wonderful scent! - I envy you the rhubarb - I have tried repeatedly to plant it here and although it might last a couple years it always dies - the summers are just too hot - you rarely ever see it sold fresh in the early spring/summer or even frozen

  5. I rested most of yesterday but did make a yummy bread pudding using parts of two recipes, it turned out perfect. We've also had rain, a small storm this morning so everything is saturated and the skies are overcast. More rain expected later on and tomorrow. Your hosta look great, many different varieties. I really like the medium green with white edges in my gardens.

Those petunias make such a lovely spot of color in the garden.

  7. I love this wavy purple quilt - a lot of movement going on there! It sounds like this was hard to make (re: your comments yesterday).

The rhubarb/strawberry pie sounds delicious. I love rhubarb but hardly ever eat it.

Love all your garden shots, especially the hostas. I love hostas, but we have deer here that love to eat them. Unfortunately, they like to eat lots of plants that I like, like day lilies.

  8. A friend that brings over a strawberry rhubarb pie to bake in your oven. How lucky can you get ? ! (*._.*) Then to go through your stash searching for the best backing for your purple top. What a fun day it had to be even if it was gloomy.

I want your heart stand... it must have been custom made ? Just love it and perfect for your back yard garden.
