The first thing I did was lug 6 huge bags of pine bark nuggets to the backyard and refreshed my path through the garden. The nuggets were larger than the ones I usually use but were the only ones I could find. I took this photo in the early evening so the colors are really subdued.
I got three pots planted for the front porch. I planted them with identical plants this year.
This recycled plastic pot doesn't look like much yet but will fill in. I may add a couple petunias in there today.
Here are the 4 pots that I had Dahlias in last year. I just cut off the dead plants and put the pots in my heated garage for the winter. One started growing about 6 weeks ago, the others are a little slower but the last one is finally coming up. I planted them later in the season last year so I'm hoping for more blooms this year.
Hopefully, tomorrow, I will buy plants and get going on my pots. Yesterday, we broke the record with rain amounts for that day. I hope the perennials aren't drowning.
ReplyDeleteyard work always takes up so much time - but worth it in the end
ReplyDeleteYour pine path looks gorgeous. I have a landscaper friend who tells me not to walk on areas done like that because it "messes them up." But since it is yours - you can! (I won't tell him.)
ReplyDeleteYour yard looks great, and I love all those pots of flowers. Last winter I followed your suggestions and took my geraniums and put them into a large brown paper bag. Took them out this spring and put them in a big pot and they are blooming. I think I started with about 4 big plants and lost a few along the way but by summers' end, I will have a huge plant. They were very dried when I took them out and I think I should have maybe soaked the roots in water before planting, but I'm very pleased with your suggestions. Will do it again this fall.
ReplyDeleteI will be looking forward to seeing the pots as they grow and fill out. They are going to be so pretty! I didn't get a chance last night to look and see if any of my seeds are sprouting yet. No need to water that is for sure! It is suppose to be overcast the rest of today and the sun might peek thru last this evening, but it is rain Saturday and Sunday.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely have a green thumb. I enjoy seeing your garden. We haven't had to water our deck pots of begonias lately bec of all the
ReplyDeleterain. I don't have to guess as to if they are wet enough?? LOL
I planted dahlias in the front yard last year and they surprised me coming up again with lots of nice buds right now. Your yard looks great! You'll enjoy the work you've done for many months.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos - the first one would be a really pretty palette for a quilt.
ReplyDeleteOK Wanda, you've officially planted the gardening bug in my brain with all your pretty plantings and can't wait to go shopping for my flowers to pot. I'm intrigued by your recycled pot and may have to stop by to see it in person. It looks very interesting, but I can't quite figure out how it was done. You did a great job on your garden path and it all looks so inviting. Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteI do so like the pots all the same, geraniums, lobelia, and are they petunias? Lovely bright colour on the steps, you have been so busy.Down here, ready to put spring bulbs into new mix in pots as well.
ReplyDeleteYour backyard looks so wonderful! So many different flowers and plants to look at - I love gardens that are that rich and full of different colours and plants!
ReplyDeleteYou have a great start!! We are behind due to all this stinking RAIN! I sure hope we get a few sunny days soon. I just love the first picture.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
