Kits, garden, and soup.........

I am still cutting squares for batik colorwash kits and I'm at the point where I had to put the squares up on the design wall to see what I still need to cut.  I'm at 191 pieces right now and I want to do 300 this time.  I can see I need a lot more green/turquoise/blue and lots of medium values.

I made the collages of photos taken 8 days apart so you can see how much everything has grown.
The hostas were barely up in the photo on the left.
The peonies have really shot up in 8 days.
Here the hostas in the foreground on the right are barely up in the left photo.  There will be lots more hostas in the next photos I take since some are just peeking out of the ground.

I was lucky enough to get one of the ham bones from Easter Sunday dinner so I made 15 bean and ham soup.

The ham was spiral cut so there was a lot of ham left on the bone.  Yummy!!

  1. I made split pea soup with mine. I make it in the crockpot so I don't have to worry about the stove and cook it overnight. We have had so much rain, I have not been able to photo the garden. The tulips are ready to burst. Love the colorwash. Any extra kits, let me know. Got three comfort quilts labeled and ready to go tomorrow.

  2. everything is popping up so pretty, I have so many small redbud trees growing and luckily I have the space for them to continue to grow - I will have a small grove of beautiful color one day on the far side of the yard where they are not in the way and can multiple as much as they want. At last count I have 9 in one area and about 8 in another. Some of them had a few buds this year - I believe they all came from a tree in that area that died about 4 years ago - I have one big one that is by the workshop that came from same tree.

  4. Interesting seeing the changes in your landscape. I have sunflower seeds planted in small pots because I don't have much luck sowing them directly into the ground. Just from morning to evening one day they went from none germinated to five of 12 germinated. I'll check them again today and hope they've all germinated. It's interesting how something that changes so slowly can change so dramatically when we stop looking at it. Makes you wonder if there isn't some kind of party going on when we're not looking.

  7. You amaze me with your color combinations ... how do you do it? I struggle so much with color combinations it would be great if you did a post on how to combine color, etc. Katie

  8. I love seeing your colour wash ideas come together - they always fascinate me! You're way ahead of us as far as things growing. We're just starting to see the leaf buds on most of the trees on the roof garden start to swell a bit, although those on the crab apple trees are already slowly starting to open.

  14. Our son-in-law doesn't like ham, so we rarely have a good ham anymore. I don't care for the lunch meat with the additives, but prefer the bone-in spiral sliced ham. :( I hope my peonies and iris planted year before last bloom for the first time this year. Last year the bunnies ate them all down to nothing, so no blooms. Also, this is the 3rd year for the new clematis, as the old one died, and the bunnies ate it down, too, so I hope to have lots of new flowers blooming this year. April showers...

I'd like to do a colorwash someday. I'm not sure I'd be good at that & don't really have enough of the right fabrics for one probably yet.
