I had enough triangle squares sewn to lay out one more block. I have one turned the wrong way in the bottom row. The box only contains light triangles so I spent some time cutting medium and dark triangles.
I sewed enough squares for four more blocks with a few left over.
I took photos yesterday afternoon to compare with 8 days ago. I didn't have time to make them into four 2 photo collages so I'll show you one today so you can see how pink the backyard is. I'll do the collages for tomorrow.
Here is a question for people who live in or near NC. My son in law sent this photo of a bush that grows near streams and he asked if I knew what it is. I have never seen it before. Can anyone identify it for us?
Thanks for all of the input. He decided it is Mountain Doghobble.
The white flowers may be mountain dog hobble. I googled " white bell shaped flower living near streams" and the pictures look identical.
ReplyDeleteI like your star blocks.
ReplyDeleteyour triangles are making lovely blocks. Liking th shrub too but not come across one of these
ReplyDeleteI don't know what the plant is but I have found on facebook a group for Arkansas called Arkansas Nature Identifier - maybe there is a similar group for North Carolina? They helped me identify a tree growing on my property.
ReplyDeleteI believe the bush is Pieris japonica. I bought a couple of little ones once in the hope of growing them in my front yard, but no luck. Those little flowers are so charming.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful blocks and I love the pictures of your garden. The flower looks like the Andromeda flowering shrub. (https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/japanese-andromeda/grow-japanese-andromeda.htm ) We also have these on the East coast.
ReplyDeleteIt's Pieris.....difficult to grow in the garden as they do like constant moisture.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers look like the andromeda shrubs we have in Oregon.
ReplyDeleteLove your blocks, Wanda! That shrub is definitely a Mountain Doghobble. The Latin name is Leucothoe. (Or something like that) It grows in North Carolina and is called a doghobble because it grows so densely that dogs have to hobble to get through it. I believe it is also poisonous.
ReplyDeleteI like that block with the four white squares at the inner corners. It is nice to see all the pink and white blossoms popping out everywhere. It was way to hot yesterday for spring - almost 80 - but today it is much cooler and that makes me happy. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love each of your growing star blocks, it is going to be another great piece of needle artwork. Enjoyed everyones thoughts on your son in laws bush.

Those stars are going to turn into a fantastic quilt! I'm glad you're going on with making them!
ReplyDeleteWhat size are your half square triangles for your star blocks? They are beautiful!!!
