I pressed the backing fabric and loaded it on the longarm Saturday. Yesterday afternoon I added the batting and top and quilted it.
I did the organic straight line quilting again, no channel locks to keep it straight. The lines are 3/4" to 1 1/2" apart so it is very soft and cozy.
I trimmed it and cut binding from the same dark fabric as the large squares. I did the binding all by machine. It took about a little over 2 hours compared to 5-6 hours finishing by hand. It is 59" x 83" so it is plenty long for a 6' person on the couch.
The backing fabric looks great with the front. All of the fabrics on both sides are batik. I like it a lot better now than I did when it was just a top. I think the quilting pattern looks great on it.

Just my style! I struggle sometimes with what color of quilting thread to use when there's such a drastic change in fabric colors but it all works out when I remember to stand back and look at it from a few feet away. Great finish. Batiks are just so interesting.
I love the simplicity of your quilting on quilts with complex piecing. ... How will you quilt your Trip around the World quilt? So many seams in both directions! And so heavy with the weight of so many seams -- would you use an especially light-weight batting?
Starting out strong! I love this quilt, the pattern, the fabrics, and the size. It's about the size I tend to make most of my quilts these days, very versatile, I find. And since I'm a big person - 5'10" and NOT skinny at all - and come from a family of tall people, I tend to make quilts for people my size, even when I actually end up giving some of them to people who are much smaller.
I am currently sleeping under my snails trail quilt, also made in batiks, and I love it. It is 7 years old and really very soft. And yours is beautiful, too. ;-)
