Second quilt finish for March 2017

Four more hours of hand stitching the binding and "Bouncing Balls" is finished.  It is 54" x 70".  The Roberta Horton plaids and stripes are  lightweight fabrics.  I used Hobbs 80/20 batting so the whole quilt is very lightweight.

I have mixed feelings about the back of the quilt but am glad I used those blocks and they are no longer staring at me waiting to be finished into something.

  1. I like the backing. Somewhat reminiscent of the Gee's Bend quilts. Wonderful job with the front, too!!

  2. I understand why you have mixed feelings - but the back really is wonderful. This could be a much loved/used quilt - light but warm and cozy.

  5. "Bouncing Balls" I knew there had to be a better title than circles. (*._.*) Another great piece of meticulous round balls. Stitching those round circles takes your expert precision on the machine, they are so perfect. It really is a grand piece Wanda. And the backing... now you have started another trend, it is just great !

  10. Congratulations on another finish! Two hours and fifteen minutes to quilt? Wow, that is amazing to get that quilted so quickly! The backing turned out wonderful and this is such a pretty quilt! I like that binding too!

  11. Sometimes a finish is a finish. I think the back is fun with the plaid and interesting with all of the different fabrics. But I've had my own questionable projects so I know how you feel. Besides, no one likes to be stared at unless it's by a lemon ricotta cookie!

  13. I think the back is terrific. I bought to GO die 7 1/2" for the drunkard's path. However, it is too long for my tray so I am going to see if my husband can cut it down on his table saw- it is in the garage and it has been in the teens, so it will be awhile.
The whole quilt looks comfy cozy.

  14. I love it! The back is wonderful too! Sometimes we are too close to our own project - too crritical - to see how perfect they actually are. Just love it! Bravo!

  15. I absolutely love this quilt and the back doesn't bother me at all. It used something up and that's a great thing!

  16. I love both sides of that quilt! I always aim to make an interesting back if I have leftovers from the top. Bbut most of the time, by the time I get to the back I'm just so ready to be finished and get the quilt to the longarmer that I take the path of least resistance. And that doesn't include detailed patchwork like you have on that back.

  18. I have a kit of the RH woven plaids from the mid-1990's. I was just getting into quilting and belonged to Better Homes & Gardens craft club. I bought the kit just to fulfill the membership commitment . . . I still have the fabric (and the pattern, I think). Hmm....after 20 years is it time to sew those pretty, soft plaids into something?

  19. Your "Bouncing Balls" quilt is spectacular and I think the backing is very fitting for it. It is somewhat reminiscent of Gee's Bend style quilts.

  20. I think the back is great as I'm trying very hard to use the scraps from the fronts of my quilts in my backings and not hoard every last piece like a crazy fabric lady.....which I am ....sigh.
The front is awesome sauce too!

  21. I love this quilt top! Incredibly effective fabric placement, I do believe I'm jealous, lol.
Do you have a pattern/tutorial for it? I can't seem to find it...

  22. Wonderful. Thanks for the inspiration. I am just finishing a similar one made from my late brother-in-law's shirts. I looked at plaids for months before finding your drunkard's paths and fell in love.

  23. It's hard to tell from your photo, how did you quilt your quilt?
