Yesterday afternoon I cut 12 more Snail's Trail/Monkey Wrench blocks. I sewed 9 of them last night while I watched TV and added them to the three I showed yesterday with the die that I used. The name on the die is Snail's Trail, other people call it Monkey Wrench. I'm going to have to do a little research and see if one of them is the name of the layout rather than the name of the block.
I remembered this discussed by Barbara Brackman on her blog some time ago and did a search - she said it has also been called Indiana Puzzle, Journey to California and Whirligig Quilt. This is a favorite of mine too. I've made a couple samples for a class, but not the whole quilt... yet. There is a project box with the pattern and fabric in it somewhere around here. I don't have a die/cutter though. If we lived closer, I might hire you!!
You AMAZE me at how fast you create new quilts! Since I work as slow as a snail, if I ever tried to make a "Snail's Trail" it might take YEARS to complete! I love the look of the design!

You are so inspiring--love this block. I'm with you. I could never cut all the parts out by hand--I don't know if I'd live that long. LOL
